Wild Embers

Her words are the emotions we cannot express, and the lived experience we do not know how to describe. She writes like she has seen through our eyes and stepped in our footprints. After she breaks us down, she rebuilds our souls stronger, unbreakable, and able to withstand the pressures of being alive. I’ve bought this book for the important women in my life who I feel needs her words to realize how I see them, and for the women I know are powerful. It’s made me cry often, and feel freedom from my own brain each time I’ve read it. Beautiful.

Her poems speak to the heart and soul of women, of outrage against injustice, but also of hope and courage. Just about every woman will identify with at least one, but often many, of the verses in this fine book of poetry.

Drawn to the gorgeous cover art, I impulse bought Wild Embers a few days before my first yoga retreat. I'm so glad I did. The book has not left my side since, and also I've purchased it for two friends. There are poems in this collection that made me weep, or cheer. The poetry spoke to me on a very deep, soulful level and I recommend this gorgeous collection to anyone looking for words of empowerment, self love, or reassurance that we are not alone in our journeys through life.

A masterpiece full of breathtaking, imagery, and beautiful words

I borrowed this book on Libby and read it on the Kindle app on my new iPad. As always, my honest thoughts and opinions are directly below. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– This is a collection of poetry that includes odes to feminism, rewritten mythology in the eyes of the female heroes, and is an explosion of female empowerment, personal growth, and is meant as a revolution for femmes everywhere. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I wasn't sure what I'd think going into this one since I feel that poetry collections have been a hit or miss with me lately. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to pick up this book again and again. Hell, I was disappointed when I got to the ending and I pouted for a bit after I put my iPad down. I'll admit it openly. lol For me, this is a huge deal. I don't often feel this obsessed with a book, especially a book that I wouldn't normally pick up. I haven't gone out of my norm when it comes to books that I pick up in so long but I'm so glad I did in this instance. I have some of Nikita's other books and I'll be picking them up to go through them next. I'll have to check Libby as well to see what else I can find. I feel like with poetry lately that there's something almost missing from what we get from the collections that I find on Libby and Amazon. This one is an exception, thank God. I would read this one again, that's for sure! Again, that's something else that doesn't happen very often. I'd obviously recommend this poetry collection, especially if you need something to cheer you up and raise your self-confidence. I read this collection at a rough time in my life and it couldn't have shown up at a better time, honestly.

Nikita Gill did it again. She writes words of healing and truth. I hope one day to meet this beautiful soul.

Wild Embers, is a stunning collection of poems put together with an abundance of confidence, love and creativity. I’m not an avid reader of poetry, in fact, if you’d asked me last month I’d have told you I hated it. I blame this on studying all the technicalities of it at school and university to the point where I resented it. But, Nikita Gill has completely altered my perspective (which I consider a massive feat due to my stubborn nature). Filled to the brim with short and long, joyful and sad, reassuring and angering poems, Wild Embers should be on everybody’s TBR, especially my fellow women! Who doesn’t love a read that makes them really feel? First of all, the cover is absolutely gorgeous. The foil detailing shines in the light like actual embers falling from a fire, and, in combination with the complete design, it holds the essence of the universe brilliantly. Somehow it captures the way it conspires to bring everything together in the world and our lives with an endless and magical sort of power. In addition to that, the title of the collection speaks a thousand words: we all have a fire in us and when it’s fed, it can be wild and explosive in the most beautiful way possible. If there’s anything to take from Gill’s work, it’s to feed that fire and embrace all that it brings. To deliver that message, the poems instill confidence in the reader, alongside the belief that the things that can be portrayed as a weakness in females, are in fact powerful. Gill’s writing is incredibly empowering, to say the least, and while it did speak on things that I was already aware of, it also brought to light other issues in patriarchal society that I hadn’t considered before. Between the wonderful way in which she rewrites the fairytales that a lot of us grew up hearing, and the important lessons that we should never forget to teach our sons and daughters, Wild Embers is a dazzling piece of work. As previously implied, I’ve never reviewed poetry before, so if you’ve read this and have any thoughts that are dis/similar to my own, please don’t hesitate to comment below, I’d love to have a conversation! I’m giving Nikita Gill’s Wild Embers 5 out of 5 stars, and fully intend to hand this masterpiece down to my future daughter/s. I’m so thankful to have read this.
