I usually take the old one out and put it in some Clorox bleach , a little bit, and some dish soap, and wash it out and rinse it, then put it back into my cat fountain. I do that about three or four times before I throw the old one away and changed to a new one of these. Works out great.

I posted a review for the other filter, the one that sits under the water tray of these fountains. However, this is for the filter that sits with the pump. If you've changed the other filter and the water is still not flowing like it should, change this filter out.Could you rinse it off in a pinch and reuse?Yes.But the netted mesh sponginess of it means that you'll get it somewhat clean but it's best just to swap it for a new one. The quantity in this order will last practically forever (not a literal measurement of time). I don't have to change these near as often as the other filter in the fountain.
