The cheapest way to extend your MacBook Pro storage!
I looked for the cheapest and easiest way to extend my storage in a 128GB MacBook Pro Retina 2017.My main requirement was to launch from the external storage:- virtual machines like Windows 10 / Ubuntu 16.04 using Parallels Software- some apps that require a lot of space like XCode, QtCreator, Epic Games launcherInstallation was really straightforward, only 3 screws to tighten (screwdriver comes with the package). The aluminum housing looks premium and matches with the Space Gray MacBook Pro too.I equipped this enclosure with a relatively cheap Intel SSD 540s 180GB M.2 SSDSCKKW180H6.When it comes to performance this combination allows me to run both VMs and applications without any problems.Everything runs without any lag as if it was on the MacBook's internal storage.I run a couple of benchmark tests using Black Magic Disk Speed Test (on mac) and Crystal Disk Mark (on Virtual Machine). They are presented in the pictures attached. The results are more than satisfying on the grounds that Intel declares 560MB/s read and 475MB/s write speeds in their specification. The case becomes hot while copying a couple of GB of files which is normal for M2s.In summary, if you are heavy MacBook user and do not like the idea of spending much money on 256GB version - this is exactly what you need.

Excellent, compact and fast M.2 caddy
An excellent external M.2 caddy. I use it to host an external "Windows To Go" and Linux system for testing PCs & Laptops. It has been very useful. The inclusion of USB-A -> USB-C and USB-C -> USB-C cables is a boon!

Too hot to handle!
I got a new NVME drive for my PC which left me with a standard M2 SSD. The idea was to use the enclosure with the old drive to move files about as I use both macOS and Windows. Nice little unit was very easy to install the drive and get it set up and would have ideal for my needs.Got this enclosure delivered a couple of hours ago and in no time was ready to start copying files, part way through I picked the enclosure up and it was so hot it burnt my fingers. No, no exaggeration, it was that hot!So no sooner than I have received it, it's going back. A real shame because it was a perfect solution but I can't work with something that gets so hot you can't even touch it.I see some others have given it good ratings, so not sure if my enclosure is faulty but now I have looked through all reviews others have experienced the same. The SSD I have is a Samsung Evo, so not sure if the type of SSD makes a difference. On a plus side the NVME SSD I got from Amazon last week and put in my PC is blazing fast :)

Great cheap external SSD solution and looks good to
Great cheap external SSD solution and looks good to. Easy to install SSD and I got the read/write speeds i expected from a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 drive approx 500-550mb/s. Yes it gets a bit warm but not too hot, i haven't pushed it yet though.I tried a Thunderbolt 3 cable just out of interest to see if speeds increased a bit instead of the supplied cable and didn't notice much of a difference, so supplied cable seems fine to me also.I plan on using it as a Windows Boot drive for my MacBook Pro amongst other uses and it has convinced me to try the new Wavlink 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe NVME SSD Enclosure next as a main backup/storage drive when it's available and Apple supports them.

Great external enclosure for compact and high-speed storage.
The wavlink came with a USB 3.0 Cable, USB 3.1 Cable, instructions, and a small screwdriver with two extra screws. Which is always really helpful to have.My SSD got good performance with it, but it does get hot. I didn't notice any throttling personally with over 5 hours of continous use.If you have issues with thermals you can try to use thermal pads, but it should be fine.I have a full review in Video if you just search for the product name on youtube.

My old M.2 lives on
After upgrading my M.2 to an NVMe i didn't want my old drive to sit in my cupboard gathering dust so i purchased this so i could use it as removable storage. USB type c is a very nice addition and it does also come with a type a to c so it is compatible with all devices. The unit itself seems to be very sturdy and i have not experienced any over heating issues. The speeds are also very good when connecting to a usb 3.1 port via usb c. One thing worth mentioning is that it doesn't not support NVMe drives, the connections are different when compared to a M.2 sata

and comes with great quality cables
The drive is very fast, and comes with great quality cables. So credit where credit's due this the data transfer is great quality.HOWEVER, with no ventilation and a metal case it has a serious overheating problem! When I tried to format the drive I touched the case and it nearly burnt me. The drive stopped working and I had to take it out and cool it down before I could reformat it. So now, if I need to transfer a large file, I need to take it out of the case first! This, needless to say, is quite annoying!

Some speed tests
My aim was to assemble a fast pendrive that I could install a full portable operating system on. I used it with a Samsung 250 GB 860 EVO M.2 and ran some very simple tests. When connected to USB2, Linux Mint 18, subjectively, worked well enough. I did notice it took longer to boot than I'm used to. On USB3.1 Gen 1 (nee USB3.0), Mint ran at a, subjectively, normal pace and ran some Steam games as well as expected. Mission accomplished. Copying a 4GB file on different USB connectors on the same PC (but not lab conditions by any means) - ensuring the file was cached in memory for writes and wasn't for reads - produced the following Windows 10 file-copy graphic results:USB2: read 40MB/s, write 38MB/sUSB3.1 Gen 1: read 380MB/s, write 150MB/sUSB3.1 Gen 2: read 500MB/s, write 170MB/sBare M.2 SSD manufacturer specification: read up to 550MB/s, write up to 520MB/s.Those backup my feelings that Mint was usable on USB2 and fine on USB3.1 Gen 1 or better. For comparison the same test with a Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 64GB pen drive:USB3.1 Gen 1: read 220MB/s, write 160MB/s (manufacturer specification read up to 245MB/s, write up to 190MB/s)Other than that, the box looks good and would appear to be about as small as it could be for this size of drive.

Hochwertige Verarbeitung

Deludente USB 10Gbit Gen 2 e molto caldo
