I dont know what the bad reviews are about. I knew java first, did the book and everythjng in it works, no fuss. I think its a really good book.

If you know some java already then this book really helps.

Very comprehensive book. I have no hesitation to recommend this to both beginner and advanced Android developes.

Well written book but some important topics are skipped. For example, threse is nothing about the home screen widgets and there is not much about the important subject as ContentProviders.

When I saw the Big Nerd Ranch book tile I was really excited, I've been wanting learn android for some time. I've completed the Big Nerd Ranch Front-End Web Development book and thought it was great. This Android book however is utter rubbish! No real instruction of how to do something, more like 'this is what it should look like' or 'this is what it should do'. Even the layout and illustrations are lacking. A hopeless book and a massive disappointment from the Big Nerd Ranch :(
