Q: does anyone have ideas how to get my jack russell from barking and running us ragged help

A dog whistle is good to start with if dog is young if how ever dog is older and and been barking a long time,I have used a home made small bag filled with dried pearl barley, when barks throw bag and say stop or word you choose,you have to have a lot of patience. Another way is to buy a machine that when dog barks it gives of a signal that we cannot hear they stop barking. These are very expensive the good ones the cheap ones do not work hope this is helpful.

The whistle per se will not stop your dog from barking at other dogs. It has to be used in conjunction with training. The whistle makes a soft audible sound and a person standing next to you can certainly hear it. My dogs have good hearing so they can hearing it 140 feet away - at this distance, the whistle is inaudible to humans.
