Portrait Drawing 25th Anniversary: A Step-By-Step Art Instruction Book (Artist's Painting Library)

This little book is an excellent aid to portraiture in pencil or chalk. It shows the ways to attain proficient results in pencil, which are most necessary, as you can correct any errors so much easier in this medium. Once you can "paint" accurately in pencil, you can progress onto paints, with a minimum of wastage of expensive oils or acrylics, making this an excellent outlay as it costs about the same as a tube of paint.

I'm very used to sketching but this really has improved my technique and is a very good buy for absolute beginners as well as for those with some sketching ability.

Would have liked more detail on proportions of face and position of eyes, nose etc as I am a complete amateur.

A great book with lots of good tips for portrait painting

This is a very handy book . I have used it now lots of times and it is also a good read it you are into drawing .I am not good at portraits and this has been a big help

This is not a book for anyone that has never picked up a pencil before but is supportive enough to cover a lot of the basics. The illustrations are clear and straight forward if a little difficult to copy. This is by no means an "Easy into Drawing" kind of book and respect is shown that the reader does not want to do cartoon or line drawing, but you would probably pick up that notion from just gazing at the cover. Overall a good book.

I wish I had bought this book first, it would've saved me a lot of money on other books I've tried. It's not only exceptional step by step instruction, it has great tips like doing the shading first to help with keeping proportion and great ways of sketching measurement "framework" to keep proportions accurate (saves a lot on erasers).

Very informative and well worth the purchase price.
