Product Description Witness the original web-slinger's mythology from the beginning! Peter Parker is a not so typical high school junior, fresh off an exciting summer engaging common criminals with his new found powers. But now he must conceal his secret identity as "Spider-Man", while engaging a new level of terror: the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life at home/school with combating bigger, badder super villains in the real world! .com Volume 5 of The Spectacular Spider-Man further confirms that this animated adaptation of the web-slinger's adventure is one of the best ever produced, thanks to its smart scripting, plentiful action, and respect for the source material. In all four episodes on this single-disc set, taken from Spider-Man's second season, he's pitted against villains both old and new while attempting to navigate the pitfalls of school, romance, and responsibility. The season 2 opener, "Blueprints," introduces the would-be magician Mysterio, who makes life difficult for Spidey just when he's trying to sort out a burgeoning romance with Gwen Stacey. Mysterio returns in "Reinforcement," which finds him part of the Sinister Six (here comprising Sandman, Rhino, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter, who is the key foe in "Destructive Testing"). Meanwhile, the identity of the crime boss known as the Master Planner is revealed in volume 5's final episode, "Shear Strength"--and it's a neat twist on par with the true identity of the Big Man in season 1. The Master Planner's team (which includes Electro and the Tinkerer) is bent on world domination, adding some tension to Peter Parker's uncertainty about whether to be with Gwen or Liz Allen. It's an exciting, well-crafted quartet of episodes, each displaying the series' core strengths, not least of which is the solid vocal cast, led by Josh Keaton as Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Too bad there aren't any extras to make the disc extra-Spectacular. --Paul Gaita

The Best Spider-Man Cartoons and Stories Since 1966
ALL episodes in this Spectacular Spider-Man animated series are absolutely The Best Spider-Man cartoons and stories since the 1966 Amazing Spider-Man IN COLOR cartoons!!Season 1 was well... Spectacular! Season 2 was highly anticipated and DID NOT DISAPPOINT - equally Spectacular!!The ONLY disappointment is that there is NO Season 3 or more!! What is it with Disney - the new owners of Marvel!? This entire series deserves more and more seasons! The retelling of the early Spider-Man stories with totally modern twists was a stroke of genius! With all the material having been written in the Classic Comic Books how could Disney cancel this series!!??Then again Disney did the same thing with their equally ground breaking reinterpretation of Iron Man with their Iron Man Armor Adventures - BUT that is another sad story for for an equally fantastic series!! What's worse they left us with a cliff hanger!! What really happened to Tony Stark Sr.!!??DISNEY - wake up and bring both series back!!! There were non better!

Must Buy Season 2 of Spectacular Spiderman One Volume at a Time
I'm not going to review the content of this series. Suffice it to say that it is a great rendition of Spiderman and well worth it for any fan to pick up. What I want to pass along is that at least now (with the most recent lower prices on each disc) it is worthwhile to actually buy these as separate volumes. If you want Season 2 (the last season) of Spectacular Spiderman you need to pick it up as four separate discs (Vol 5, 6, 7, and 8). Each disc is now priced at approximately $7 so a full season still costs more than it should have, but if you are a fan of the show I think you will think it is worth it. I did and I am looking forward to finally enjoying season 2 of "your friendly neighborhood Spiderman"!

too bad it's a volume edition
i broke down and bought this volume edition with the understanding that a "complete" 2nd season dvd would never materialize. This like the series itself is a victim of the ambiguous licensing war between Sony & Marvel/Disney. That being said, IMO, this series was the single greatest (and truest) superhero animation adaptation ever made. Hats off to Victor Cook, Greg Weisman, and Sean Galloway. And yes, I do feel this is better than the excellent and much heralded Batman Animated Series. If you grew up on Spiderman comics and haven't seen these, give it a chance... you won't be sorry.

Spectacular!
One of the best animated shows made. For anyone who is a fan of Spidey or animated action in general, check this out. The first season of the show was great. The second season, which starts with this volume, is even better. The one major drawback is there isn't going to be a third season, so after you watch vol.'s 5,6,7,8, that's it. And if you do check out all the volumes of season 2, you'll realize what a shame that truly is. Great storylines, memorable characters, intense action and appropriate for all ages. Can't really say enough about Spectacular Spiderman......

Good DVD of Spiderman
My 2yr old daughter loves Spiderman (maybe daddy influenced her a little) but now she loves watching it. But hates the commercials on the DVR episodes we have recorded. So we got her these DVDs to have no commercials and she can watch Spiderman all she wants. It isn't same Spiderman as new Disney XD channel series on now, but is still good. She recognizes Peter Parker and Spiderman no problem.

Spectacular Spider-Man is best Spider-Man
The art style of this action superhero cartoon looks like "Kim Possible" which although also witty and actiony, the toony look worked better for "Kim Possible" because of it emphasis on humor, but underneath this Spider-Man series obviously takes itself more seriously, more mature and after you get over weird decision on the aesthetic there are no words. This is the best cartoon I have ever seen.

High Quality has a price !!!! But let's not overdo it.
This DVD contains 4 episodes (only 4 !!!) of the Spectacular Spider-man animated serie. Each one runs for a little less than 30 minutes. The Extra features are a worthless bunch of trailers. I paid 20.00 + taxes for this one. I thought that the Brave and the Bold DVDs were an entertaining ripoff, but this one takes the title. If you surf on the internet, you will learn that these are part of, probably, the best Spidey serie ever produced. The computer-assisted animation makes it extra-fluid (colors could be sharper). Voices are close to perfection (even in French). The storyline brings us back to the time when Gwen Stacy was alive (In the comics, she gets killed by the Green Goblin). His whole gang of college friends is there and we get to follow Peter in his non-Spidey life. It is mega-filled with well-known villains (Mysterio, Rhino and the likes). I loved every minute of them.Characters have not been over-modernized, as opposed to what MARVEL and DC did to other heroes. It ios simply a close-to-perfection Spider-Man animation serie. A bit like an upgraded, upgraded, upgraded version of the late 60s serie. It is simply over-priced !!!! It is planned to have all the episodes released on a multi-disk package that would be priced properly.I would say for it to happen
