Excellent smart kettle, easy to set up and great app
Great smart kettle, to start with it looks great on my kitchen counter. Wi-fi was easy to set up and the app is clear and neatly designed, you can tell a lot of work has gone into developing this. The app is really clear and does not throw a lot at you. When you open the app the first screen shows the water level and the temp with a sliding scale you can drag along to pick any temperature you want. It also has 3 quick set buttons, one set at 85 degrees for tea, one at 95 degrees for coffee and one at 100 degrees for boiling water. I’ve recently come to learn that anything over those temps and you just end up burning your tea bag or coffee granules.I’ve set it up to my alexa, again very easy, I did have a slight hiccup with this but after contacting the Smarter customer service team and realising I had skipped some of the set-up instructions it was all working fine.It even has a formula mode which heats to 100 degrees then cools to your desired temperature, not that this is of any use to me but thought I’d point it out. I’ve yet to try some of the other modes it has like the wake up or home mode but will update this review once I’ve used the iKettle for a few more weeks. So far a great smart kettle, I highly recommend it.

OMG! Really badly thought out product. Gets rocket fuel hot on the outside, no simple time-on function, its ugly....need I go on
So if you ever wanted an example of an ill-thought out product offering that is smart for the sake of smart, this is it.Negatives:* Contrary to the instructions from their website, I couldn’t see any functionality to automatically pick up the SSID of my network; I had to type it in manually. Easy for me as I changed mine to something memorable, but might prove more tricky if you have a default one which is alphanumeric and long.* The setup instructions are wrong (bit fundamental lads). They get the name of the App wrong. It isn't called iKettle on the App Store!!!* It doesn’t work on 5ghz wifi networks, at least I couldn’t get it to connect to mine* There is no ‘timer’ to set the kettle to come on a certain time (seriously…I know!) - there is an ‘alarm’ function on your phone whereby you can set an alarm to ‘wake you up’ and it then switches the kettle on. Well..thanks but I have an alarm clock. (There is no ‘silent’ option. You have to choose one of the three default abominations). So let me just repeat that “ THERE IS NO ‘TURN KETTLE ON AT THIS TIME’ function without a phone alarm.* The setup was…weird. You have to hold your phone face forward to the bottom of the kettle whilst some crazy flashing light transmit signals to the kettle to complete the setup. Im not medically trained (!), but if Sky News have to say ‘caution - there may be flashing lights in this footage’ when showing camera flashes (and they do this to stop it affecting epileptics I always assumed) then why did the manufacturers think this mega flashing was a good idea? Beats me. I wasn't concentrating and nearly blinded myself by hold the phone towards me rather than towards the kettle when I first did it as I had no idea what it was supposed to / going to do.* Whilst there is nice integration with Alexa, you cannot ask it how much water is in the kettle. Surely that is a fundamental thing you might want to check if you were in another room from the kettle prior to saying ‘turn on my kettle’. Is it just me, or is this stuff just mind blowingly obvious* Whilst the kettle knows how much water is in it (you have to open the app and check) it will still turn on the kettle when it is empty and attempt to boil the (now empty) kettle. So like a normal kettle, it has a safety function that, after say 20 seconds, it clicks off. Would it not be more sensible for the kettle to ask itself if it had water in it prior to trying to boil?* There is no outside gauge to show you how much water is in the kettle* Its seriously ugly. Its massive with a big black power cord and the product cries “look at me” when you walk into the kitchen. This is a ‘personal taste thing’ so maybe ignore this point.* Finally - and this was the last straw for me - IT GETS BOILING HOT ON THE OUTSIDE. DO NOT TOUCH. I have a habit of touching the kettle to see if its still warm or needs to be re-boiled - you will literally blister your fingers if you do this for hours after its boiled. Especially if you are using the ‘keep water warm’ function. For this reason alone, I would suggest Amazon remove it from their shelves as someone is going to get a serious hand burn from this product.Positives:Works nicely with Alexa. You can say ‘Alexa, turn my kettle on”Live chat via the website was excellent

Great iKettle
First the negative part. All negatives are relative, however. The first time I tried to set up, I couldn’t get it to connect using the Smarter app. I was about to send it back. I tried again, and realised it was operator error, coupled with slightly ‘incomplete’ instructions. It might have been just me.Once sorted, I quickly got Siri and Alexa (in my case ‘Computer’) on side, and I was set.You can boil the iKettle using the app, by telling Alexa to, or Siri to do it. Or, by touching the button on the iKettle (easy to do old ‘skool’). The Smarter app enables notifications to let you know: the water level, the temperature, etc. It also sends notifications to your device to tell you it’s done. The water level indicator (through the app, as there’s no physical water indicator on the kettle) is so useful. If I want to ask the app, Siri or Alexa to boil the kettle, I can check there’s enough water on the app beforehand. Of course, if I’m by it, I can open the lid and look, and just press the button. The water heats nice and quickly, and you can set different temperatures for different drinks. Boiling for tea, lower for instant coffee, green tea, etc. You can set the right temp for them all and it’ll do it.I have loads of smart gadgets and lights at home, and was a bit dubious about a simple kettle. But, I’m so pleased I got it and love it as it does so much more than simply turning on and off.OK, I’m a bit of a nerd, but I’d recommend this to anyone who likes a gadget that’s practical and adaptable.I will also vouch for the after-sales service. Good advice through the app and really helpful.I want to try more of the Smarter products.

Improvements made since early reviews
I originally ordered a different kettle, put off by the negative reviews, but I wasn’t happy with that one and so I changed it for this one, and I’m so glad I did. Many of the negatives highlighted in reviews from more than 18 months ago have now been addressed and resolved. The lid no longer sticks, initial set up is easier, it doesn’t keep dropping off the network, and the instructions are better. The remaining water read-out currently shows a broad range reading which isn’t of much use (despite being calibrated) If you lift the kettle off the base too quickly after the water has boiled it no longer keeps the water warm. The app is very good and worth spending time customising it to your own needs.

Works as expected
I wanted a smart kettle that works well with Google Assistant. It does that and more with some smart configurations within its own app. Worth it if you use it on a daily basis like me.

Smart vattenkokare
