Great for all
These books are the best! My son and daughter both enjoy them. Once we read a page we look up the featured person online and watch a music video or performance. Great way to cap off the day.

Girls Making History
Rebel Girls Rock is another inspiring book in the Rebel Girls franchise. As a mother to 3 lovely young ladies, my family has been reading these books from the beginning. Our favorite was the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and was enjoyed each night before bed. These stories high light strong, successful women and their accomplishments throughout history and modern times. In Rebel Girls Rock the book focuses and women in the music industry. It spans a multi genre of musicians and singers as well as producers, conductors. These women come from all over the world, many having survived many challenges as young ladies. As I read each artist I would Google their work and take a listen. I was delighted to find myself exposed to some new sounds I'll be happy to revisit over and over. Each story is paired with a fabulous artist's portrait of the heroes. These prints are all done by female artists, each with a different artists, so many more women get to celebrate their talents within these pages. Another wonderful feature is the QR codes that accompany some of the stories that give you further content through the free Rebel Girls app. This app requires a monthly/yearly subscription but is full of so much wonderful content. The QR codes within the book did un-clock these specific stories for free! I explored the app and read reviews and think it is such a fantastic learning resource. With a yearly subscriptions the app is only $5 a month.Overall I enjoyed this book. Each story is a brief summary. To get more out of this I would recommend the app or take time to search through Google for more. I give this story 4 stars for its beautiful artwork and diversity of featured artists. What could make this even better is if the app could be more affordable to all parents. Many of the artists featured in this book grew up in conditions that would have prohibited them from being able to afford this extra content. It would be great to see some type of a scholarship or discount program offered to underprivileged young women. Everyone should have a chance to hear these wonderful stories.I received and ARC from NetGalley and I'm choosing to leave my review here voluntarily.

Music is a universal language, after all.
Serendipity. The day I finished this book was Dolly Parton's birthday. As a result, although I found each of the 25 stories within fascinating, I chose to focus on Dolly Parton. Her history is certainly well known. She's an icon. Instantly recognized. Who'd have thought the little girl singing on her family's front porch to entertain her family would grow up to grace the fanciest stages of the world? Or that a movie would be made of a song she scribbled the lyrics to on the back of an ol' receipt? Yet, most know the story behind "The Coat of Many Colors".As a former teacher, however, as much as I enjoy her music, it's her ability to use her hard-scramble background to inspire her to help others that inspires me. Realizing the limits being unable to read well had put on her parents, she found a way to insure children who might not otherwise be exposed to the wonders of reading have books in their hands. The others showcased are equally deserving. It's an interesting mix, ranging from Ella Fizgerald, who did a stint in reform school, to the likes of four strangers brought together to form Blackpink. Then there's Joni Mitchell, who got in trouble during piano lessons for making up her own melodies and would later suffer from polio. Or, how about the artist born on the edges of the Sahara Desert? Like some of the others included, I must admit to never having known about her or her group, Les Filles De Illighdad. Thanks #NetGalley and #RebelGirls for helping rectify that omission. They all have a story worth knowing. Who knows, someone reading this might even be inspired to make a future edition of this book. Music is a universal language, after all.

Perfect for everyone!
I really enjoy the Rebel Girls series! I have 3 girls and it's important to me that they know they can do and be anything they want. I love having these books with women they can look up to and be inspired by. This one is all about music. I was surprised Beyonce and Taylor Swift didn't make the cut but the list is really diverse in music genre and the women's race. I enjoyed the intro by Joan Jett! She's an icon!! It was really fun to read about some of the older artists I didn't really know. Each story is short - only one page so it's entertaining without dragging it out too much. My girls enjoyed reading about all the different artists! Another fantastic addition to the Rebel Girls series! I'll definitely be picking up a physical copy of this one when it comes out!!
