30 Year old Lens is now active again. AS LONG AS YOU KNOW the drawbacks...
It's great that people make these adapters so that we can use old lenses with new DSLRs. However you need to know the drawbacks, especially with these FD adapters. The adapter has a glass part and this (according to a video I saw on Vimeo) adds 1.8x crop to the lens. So, if you're using this, as I am, on a 2/3 Sensor DSLR, then you already have 1.6x crop. So basically, on my 7D, my 50mm lens is now a 144mm f1.8 lens.So this is either a drawback or a plus, depending on what you want.ALSO, at the lowest f-stop, for me 1.8, the image gets incredibly milky and dreamlike. This could be interesting for some creative styles, but something that could be seen as a drawback. Finally, the back cover of the adapter just won't stay on. I can store it upright and make sure the adapter isn't damaged, but it's a little frustrating. Knocked off a star for that.So overall, the adapter does the job well, but it's got a couple of issues that you should be aware of.

Useful
Why 4 stars, I already have a straight adaptor that allows just marco shots (different vendor/maker) and whilst it works well the fit is not as tight as this which when you have a long heavy lens you don't want rocking on the camera body mount really, so this gains a star for the precise fit it had to both the lens and camera body.Limitations you can not use the lens in full apperature as if you do this you get a softer image and also no doubt in bright light a noticeable halo.Stopping any lens tested (I have three) to f4 clearly closes the spines enough to make a light pass tighter then the glass lens in this adaptor which can only be a good thing as I guess the optics are not going to be superb at this price. fully open the image is milky anyway. So for the money I thought worth a go and for the quality of the mount joins on this adaptor deffinately.

Good for use with a macro lens
I bought the adapter so I could use a Canon FD fit 105mm macro lens on my EOS 550D. It does this very well, once the adapter lenses are removed, and gives a little above 1:1 as it acts as a short extension tube. There are no instructions, but I did eventually figure out (after trying for several minutes to use it to fasten the adapter to the camera!) that the ring marked "Lock <-> Open" was to use the lens open to set up the shot and then stop down to the aperture set on the lens by moving the ring to "Lock".I did try it as a converter (I belive it's about 1.4x) but the quality of the optics is really not good enough. Lots of colour fringing and low clarity.I have to commend the delivery time. The adapter came from the US, and was ordered on the Monday and arrived on the next Saturday.

Great quality adapter, fantastic for beginners or photographers on a budget
The product itself is very well made and fits the camera/lens perfectly. The adapter is by no means for anyone who's looking for professional grade quality out of vintage FD lenses BUT it is perfect for any beginner as it allows you to use cheap but high quality vintage FD lenses allowing you to accumulate a wide selection of lenses on a tight budget. The benefit to this particular adapter is the fact that it allows you to remove the glass within the adapter allowing you to use the lens as a macro lens too.

Fits well and enables old Cannon lenses to be used
Takes some getting used to. Fortunetly modern technology enables photos to be edited! Still cheaper than film in the long run and it means all my old lenses are not able to be used rather than just looking at me.

FD Adapter
This model is the same as the Mamiya model. Quite expensive compared to other Chinese models. The Chinese models have now upped their quality, included an AF confirm chip and still come in cheaper than Fotodiox,s models. Yes i am happy with the product but unfortunately it is already outdated. It is still usable but i bought an AF model to try and i find myself using the AF model all the time as i require the focus confirm to correct my left eye. I hope this helps others.

but it could probably go wrong pretty easily!
Possibly my fault, but I was unaware that this product was being shipped from the USA. Having said that, it took just under a week to arrive so I really can't complain! It works well with my old FD lens on my new digital camera. It comes with instructions, just make sure you read them carefully before you try and attach it, I've not had any problems, but it could probably go wrong pretty easily!
