great game for all ages!!! - plus no more constant batteries for your portal of power as it connects directly to your wii. yay!!
i bought this for my partners 39th birthday. lol. he got addicted to our sons spyro's adventure and when he'd completed that I decided to buy daddy the giants. The giants continues with the story from spyros adventure beautifully - you will be able to see were Kaos ended up. lol. Well it has gone down a treat. The characters included in the box are excellent. With Tree Rex being the favorite (tree rex is a giant - the other two - jet vac and cynder - are skylanders series 2) Tree Rex is also great because he lights up when he is placed on the portal of power - his eyes shine blue, and a gem in his hand shines green. if you already have skylanders spyros adventure you will be pleased to know that your previous characters can still be used in the new game, on the new portal - with the added bonus that you can continue to level them up further to level 15!!! 5 levels more than with spyros adventure. (it will also save you money, as you can use your previous skylanders to unlock certain zones in the new game) Also, the portal with the giants game is on a lead which plugs into the usb at the back of your wii, the lead is really long so is good if you like to sit away from the t.v with the portal next to you. Also it will save you so much money in batteries which is great. (please note though, the portal will continue to stay lit even when the wii is on standby, to turn it off you will have to unplug it from the usb port) Overall, a great game and a great buy. Very happy with this purchase.

Pros and cons
Pros - good condition, disc is good condition so is the portal all works all good Cons - didn't receive the initial package, had to get a replacement sent, stickers on the bottom of the figures hard to get off, wrong tracking code

Reasonable but the USB lead is archaic
Bought for my 6 y/o birthday. I researched in advance if we needed the portal as we already had Spyro's adventure and the research indicated we did - in fact you don't so if you can get the game without then I'd recommend that approach. If you do want to use the USB lead portal then we found it was a bit of a hassle as we have the console tucked in amongst the various hi-fi elements and the lead would need regular attachment and removal. The game play (so far) seems simple enough and certainly manageable for my son. Generally the game is fun to play and the added value of the figures (albeit they are costly) provides an extra dimension that is quite fun

Game sent does not work on the UK Wii
The game I received DOES NOT work on the UK Wii. I dug the old wii out as my son has been going on about skylanders and saw that it was available on the wii on Prime to be delivered next day. Son was delighted when it arrived only to find out the game was USA version and couldn’t be read. Got a gutted 8 year old who had waited all day for it to be delivered only to be let down.

Skylander Giants-Starter Pack (Wii)
I bought this for my Godsons 7th Birthday.....he nearly fell off his chair with excitement when he opened it. A fantastic starter pack with everything you need...Wii game, portal, 3 figures, cards and stickers. It was the cheapest deal I could find both on & off the internet on the 1st May...however bit disappointed that 5 weeks down the line it is already £12.00 cheaper!!! It has been played with nonstop since he received it, as many of his friends also have it and love the whole concept of the game. There are many figures that can be bought individually or in multi packs to accessorize this game, either giants or minis with some lighting up, which he has already done with some of his birthday money...hence an extremely happy young boy. Highly recommended for an action packed game to keep them amused....although I have to say I didn't have a clue what was going on when I joined him for a game...hey ho thats what getting old does for you!!!!

What a con!
Beware. Skylanders is one of those products with big exciting packaging, but the contents are extremely lacklustre. The game itself is very slow and plodding, and has none of the excitement of any Mario Bros game. There are none of those 'almost did it!' moments that make that make your child squeak and want to have another go. Your character just plods around at the same pace destroying everything until finally (thankfully) the level ends. If a committee of funless 40-something educationalists were asked to create a game for children, Skylanders would be the uninspired result. But there's something even nastier about the game. It encourages you to get more characters... which means paying out for more of the overpriced plastic characters to stand on the platform. After about 3 days my son was wanting to spend his Christmas money on more characters, but a couple of weeks later they now lie gathering dust (together with a boxful of unwanted ones from a friend) and he's playing his old games. Avoid this game!

Brilliant!
Where can I start? My son and I are hooked. We play skylanders every oppotunity we can get. It encourages team work as players have to stick together. Its clever, you place the figure you want to play on the portal (a round castle turret that glows, that is attached to the back of your wii by a usb cable) and he appears in the game. Each figure has different abilities and a different personality. We've planned all the figures we're going to buy. It helps (not essential) to have a figure from each of the element groups (water/fire/sky etc) so that you can do all of the challenges. Its cleverly made so that once you've run out of life your player has to rest, and if you go through all your players in this way, you'll want to buy more to play longer! Bonus, the 'spyro's adventure' figures work on sylanders giants! (But not the other way round). Worth every penny!

An interesting gimmick
I can see that the bedroom of our son will eventually be festooned with characters from this series, as it is an appealing gimmick to have the ability to have a physical avatar of the character being played to act as a companion in the room, but with a cynical eye, I believe that it is a marketing gimmick that will cost more than it will return in enhanced play. Brace yourself, as a parent, for the inevitable whinge about needing another of the 100+ Skylanders available. Calculate the cost of something that eventually will go the way of the Hot Wheels racing track that always falls apart and brace yourselves for not having the price of a pint (or three) at the pub due to it having been converted into a small piece of garish plastic. Yaaay. Parenthood, more than a job, it's an experience in avoiding bankruptcy through video games.
