How To Read Music: Easy-to-Use, Easy-to-Learn; Simple Musical Examples

Have previously purchased the piano chords in this series, that was an excellent reference book (the spiral binding is 10/10). But sadly that is the only thing this book has in common!This is a book that doesn't really give you very much, its neither a tutorial or a reference book.Hardly suitable for beginners and a total waste for anyone with even a flicker of music reading or theory knowledge.Or in other words, if you have purchased a teach yourself book on guitar/piano you will already have thge information available that this book contains.The only half useful part is the Compendium section at the end, which tries to give a summary of music notation/symbology/syntax - However it only gives the common stuff and misses out on the things that are likely to be unknown (my reason for purchasing).You would think a book stretching to 383 pages would be comprehensive but its not, just the very basic stuff, bloated out with playing exercise or silly quizzes (without answers!).Sorry but this book is a dud and the Amazon web site 'look inside' gives the wrong impression.Will I keep it? Probably, but only because the cost in postage and time just about exceeds its refund value.Which is the other good point, its low cost, so if you ignore this review you won't have wasted too much money!Update:Just realized amazon prime refunds the postage - ok its going back Good to be using Amazon :)

This is a great book to help you read music. It takes you through stage by stage with clearly explained practice sessions. I found it particularly useful to learn the notes above and below the staff, which I had struggled with identifying previously. I am in my early seventies and took up learning to play the piano in recent months and would recommend this book to anyone just starting to play.

Thick small book. Great for learning each hand separately but had it been produced as a4 size it could have been used on the music stand.

One of the best explanatory texts I have seen. Nearly everything you would want to know from Beginner to Expert - and even then at this level, you might have forgotten, makes for this and Encyclopaedia of re-discovery.

This was a present for my granddaughter Gemma who is teaching herself to play the guitar. And she loves the book, she say that it is easy to use while playing as it is spiral bound.

Bought this for myself, I can play music but can't read it properly, was great value, in great condition and is really helpful
