Read Write Inc.: Set 1. Speed Sound Cards

I bought these in the prep for my daughter starting primary school and they are great it gets you in the habit of using the same language that they will hear at school and an extra visual for homework and for the kid to play teachers to you too

These cards are also being used by the Prep school attended by my son and they are absolutely excellent. Each letter/sound is represented by an object/word which not only starts with that letter but also reminds the shape of the letter. In addition, each letter/sound card has a rhyme which describes how to write the letter. Through repetition, kids learn the letters, the sounds, the words and the rhymes. To be frank, I do not know how I could have helped my son effectively without these cards. The best purchase I have made for my son so far.

Purchased these for my son whom has speech and language difficulties to aid his education at home, alongside school whom also use this range. Really captures his imagination and makes for fun learning. I strongly suggest at first sticking to the recommended groupings, plastic bands at the ready. Might be worth purchasing a plastic wallet to store them in as the one they come in don't last very long. Over all fantastic!

Great use at work

This system is used in the grandchildren's school so I bought this set to use at home, not only for the child at school but also for my 3 year old grandson. He loves to say the sounds and then finger write over the letter. The reverse of each card has a picture and a saying to encourage and let the children know how to write the letter. Great fun for the children and they learn whilst playing. Even if they only know the first five letters recommended as a starting point there are several words one can make out of them and the child can sound out the sounds and blend them together to form three letter words. Brilliant!

Really lovely cards, am using them to help my three year old with her phonics. I got these as it is the same programme as used in her school nursery. The pictures are nice too. Would be nice if they had a case/box as can see them getting bent easily.

Bought these cards as this is the same phonics system used at my sons school. Must say it been great for reinforcing what they learn and my 4 year old often sits looking through the cards and sounding out the letters. The ditties at the back eg Maisie mountain mountain, would probably have not made much sense to me if I hadn't known how it's used at school - which is basically how to actually write the letters. I thought this was a bit bizarre having to remember these as well but the truth is it works! If my son gets stuck writing a letter I say these and he remembers. I think these cards are excellent to use at home if that's what's being used at school. My main criticism is the packaging which is just a plastic bag to put the cards in!

After reading all the reviews I got these cards as they had the little rhymes for learning to write the letter. My son has absolutely loved doing his letters homework (that won't last eh?!) We spread these out on the table and make the suggested words from his teacher and then I let him pick a word and see if he can sound the word out to get the right letters. Read Write Inc has done wonders for reading and writing at our school. Even if your school doesn't do this, I still think these would be helpful if you're keen to do extra reading and writing at home. I agree the bag they come in could be a little better, but it's a minor point.

Bought this set for my toddlers to start learning phonics for fun. They are beautiful, quite durable, thick cards and my children find them hilarious. Good purchase.

These cards are what I had hoped for. They have useful visuals to help in memorizing the letters of the alphabet. I wish they included upper case letters as well.

Great product. I believe now they come a bit thinner but that's all. I've read reviews claiming this has no instructions or box but this is the option for school and teacher. If you are a parent this is not the one for you. I've been working with this program for about 10 years and there no other like it.
