MATHMOS Astro Lava Lamp The Original - Blue/Green

Just absolutely amazing once the lamp heats up and the wax inside works it's magic moving up and down majestically. I find it very captivating to watch and is a real feature in our living room especially when switched on when completely dark. A real talking point with guests who are instantly drawn to it with its vibrant colours. Would look good in a bedroom too. These lamps appeal to all ages especially children who are enthralled by it and find the floating blobs of wax very amusing. Handy that they come in a choice of colours to suit different preferences. Comes in three pieces - cap, actual lamp and stand. If moving lamp around, it will be far easier if you disassemble those parts first rather than run the risk of dropping and potentially damaging a part as they are not permanently fixed and just sit loosely on one another. Of a very sturdy construction that will ensure a long life. My parents have one that is 30 years old at least and is still going strong!! Well worth purchasing as an interesting focal point in any room!

This is my first lava lamp, I decided to go for a brand with pedigree in making them and I’m very happy with it. It’s well made machined aluminium, quite heavy and looks classy. Some points to note though, the lamp is in three separate pieces the glass bottle just sits on the base and could easily be knocked/toppled so it won’t be suitable to keep within reach of pets/kids. It also gets very warm in use so touching it when on is not a good idea. It takes a few thermal cycles to really start giving the desired effect, but after the first few uses it seems to get up to speed more quickly and the colours and motions of the lava are very soothing to watch. It comes with two bulbs the first one only lasted for one use which was very disappointing but the second one has been working well with no issues. I’ve bought a couple of spare bulbs from another brand but matching the same electrical output as the originals as back up. MATHMOS bulbs are way too expensive for a consumable item. I think it’s important to allow the lamp to fully warm up when switched on and then fully cool after switching off to prolong both bulb life and improve the lava flow with repeated usage. I also think switching the unit with the inline cable switch is safer for the bulb than leaving the inline switch always on and switching on and off via the mains socket outlet. I’m sure that’s how I blew my first bulb. Some people have complained about the bubbles that are visible in the glass, there are some on mine but they are very small and you really have to be very close to the lamp to notice anything. With the lamp in a sensible location in normal use I think the effect of this lamp is beautiful. I have the blue/green colours and I really love the effect it gives. It’s very vibrant and the lava flow is slightly different every time you use it. It is an expensive item for what is basically a novelty lamp, but being make in the UK from quality materials and considering how beautiful it looks I can only say I am very happy with it and I would buy it again if required, with no hesitation.

I absolutely love my Mathmos lava lamp in purple and orange. It is such a beautiful piece and really brings a warm relaxing vibe to the room. The orange wax actually looks more like a reddy pink when it floats near the top which is a lovely surprise and gives it a nice contrast against the purple liquid. It takes about an hour to fully warm up but once it gets going the lava flows smoothly and is really soothing to watch. Perfect for winding down in the evening. The quality is excellent too. It feels really well made and the chrome base and cap look absolutely stunning. It has that classic retro look but still fits in nicely with modern decor. Overall I am so happy with it. It is a stylish calming addition to my space and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of atmosphere.

This lamp is superb. Well-packed and easy to assemble. Unfortunately, the bulb failed on Christmas Day. I fitted the spare and contacted the supplier. Intially, they said the free spare bulb would now be covered by the one year guarentee. This morning, two FREE bulbs were delivered. I think that's absolutely great.

Excellent lamp

Slightly larger than the mathmos lamps I already have but it looks good and appears well made. Good colour. Recommended

Purchased as an Xmas gift for my lovely partner. We followed instructions to the letter when setting it up. Power it up and it was looking fabulous once the wax had started to flow after a few hours. Was on for maximum 6 hours. Switch off overnight. Switched it back on the following day and oh dear, why is it not lighting up. Obviously, the GU10 lamp has died! Swapped it for the spare that came with it. All working again but for how long who knows! I would give this product a five-star review if it didn't have this lamp overheating issue which others have also complained about. I can only assume the lamp is exceeding its operating temperature rating due to the heat rise in the enclosed space of the base. I am an engineer and might run some thermal measurements test to what temperature it reaches at the lamp surface, body, and externally. I use to have an original 60s lava lamp which had a small standard filament lamp and that thing lasted for years, even if it was on 24/7. So this leaves us with a dilemma: 1) Should we return the unit as its not really fit for the advertised purpose. 2) Should we try to obtain a high grade GU10 lamp that won't burn out after one use! Any suggestions are welcome? 3) Modify it to use a standard BS/ES mini filament lamp. Come on Mathmos Astro Lava Lamp, you need to do better. Has this product actually been thermally tested or are you just supplying it with rubbish GU10 halogen bulbs.

Questa lavalamp, nella combinazione di colori viola e rosso, è un vero spettacolo per gli occhi. Sin dal primo momento in cui l’ho accesa, mi sono sentito trasportato in un’atmosfera retrò e rilassante. Essendo la lampada lava originale, la qualità è decisamente superiore rispetto ad altre imitazioni sul mercato. I movimenti del liquido sono fluidi e ipnotici, con un bel contrasto tra il rosso caldo della lava e il viola dello sfondo. È perfetta come elemento decorativo, sia per la casa che per l'ufficio. Inoltre, la lavalamp ha un design elegante e solido. Si sente che è un prodotto ben fatto, destinato a durare nel tempo. Ogni volta che la accendo, attira subito l’attenzione e aggiunge un tocco di stile alla stanza. In sintesi, se stai cercando una lava lamp autentica e di qualità, la Mathmos Astro è imbattibile. Un pezzo di storia del design che ancora oggi incanta!

Seit zwei Monaten besitze ich meine Violett/ Rote Lavalampe und bin bisher vollkomen begeistert. Je nach Zimmertemperatur verflüssigt sich das Wachs innerhalb von 60-90 Minuten. Danach beginnt die Magie. Die Lampe leuchtet angenehm in warmen rötlichen Farbtönen und das Wachs bildet einige mittelgroße Blasen, welche langsam auf- und absteigen. Das ganze Schauspiel schafft, meiner Meinung nach eine tolle und enspannende Atmospäre, welche ich insbesondere in der dunklen Jahreszeit nicht mehr missen möchte. Man schaut einfach gern zu und kommt zur Ruhe. (Die bisher aufgenommenen Bilder werden dem tatsächlichen Wirken nicht gerecht) Während des Betriebes heizt sich der Sockel selbstverständlich auf. Da dieser jedoch aus Metall ist, ebenso wie die obere Kappe steht die Lampe nach wie vor sicher. Ich habe meine Lampe noch nicht länger als 4 Stunden in Betrieb gehabt (max. 6 Stunden Betriebsdauer am Stück, laut Hersteller), in dieser Zeit hat sich der Sockel zwar spürbar erhitzt, aber nie so stark, dass davon eine unmittelbare Gefahr ausgehen würde, oder dass eine Berührung schmerzhaft wäre - zumindest in meiner Wahrnehmung. Insgesamt sollte die Lampe natürlich sicher und frei auf einer stabilen Unterlage stehen - ohne Gefahr zulaufen umgerissen oder umgestoßen zu werden, da ansonsten die Glasflasche zu Bruch gehen würde. Die Lampe ist bei mir nach etwa einer Stunde abgekühlt. Fehlfunktionen oder irgendwelche Beschädigungen konnte ich nicht feststellen. Ich habe binnen kürzester Zeit meine Lampe, wie bestellt, in einer tollen Verpackung der Firma Mathmos erhalten mit zusätzlicher Ersatzleuchte. Binnen weniger Minuten war die Lampe aufgebaut. Aufbau und Design der Lampe sind dem Preis angemessen. Weiterhin könnte ich jederzeit (günstige) Ersatzteile (z.B. Flasche) einfach online beim Hersteller nachbestellen. - Die Lampe ist einfach toll, wie man es sich wünscht und für den Preis auch erwarten darf.

Lamp is nice, glass on the holder is wobbly. Halogen bulb burned through on the second day, after 2 hours of use. Not worth the money. Quality is certainly not better than a 40 to 60 euro other brand. Would not recommend. Update, spare mathmos halogen bulb stopped working after about 3 weeks.

Depois de vários meses, acho que esta lâmpada é ótima. Numa sala iluminada, vê-se o roxo do líquido e o vermelho da cêra. Numa sala escura vê-se a cêra com um vermelho radiante (mesmo como lava), os contornos do vidro também radiam vermelho e a sala fica coberta por um suave tôm de vermelho. Umas coisas a considerar é que as partes de metal refletem luz e a lâmpada fica surpreendentemente quente.
