In Renaissance Italy, 18-year-old Danielle (Barrymore) has been reduced to the level of a servant by her wicked stepmother, Baroness Rodmilla (Anjelica Huston), after the tragic death of her loving father. When Danielle first meets Prince Henry (Scott), their lives couldn't seem further apart, but on their second encounter, with Danielle dressed as a noblewoman, romance blossoms as they both feel an undeniable connection.
