Product Description In this animated Disney version of Lewis Carroll's stories, young Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) is transported to the bizarre Wonderland after following the March Hare (Jerry Colonna) down a rabbit hole. There she encounters the grinning Cheshire Cat (Sterling Holloway), joins the Mad Hatter's (Ed Wynn) tea party, and falls foul of the ill-tempered Queen of Hearts (Verna Felton) during a game of croquet. .co.uk Review Walt Disney seems to have had a special affection for Lewis Carroll's "Alice" stories. "Alice's Wonderland" (1923), a short about a live-action little girl in a cartoon world, led to his first successful series, the "Alice" comedies (collected on Walt Disney Treasures: Disney Rarities--Celebrated Shorts, 1920s -1960s). During the early '30s, he talked about making an animation/live-action feature of "Alice in Wonderland" with Mary Pickford in the title role. But almost two decades would elapse before Disney released his Alice. It's the most uneven of the classic Disney features, juxtaposing brilliant and dull sequences. The Mad Tea Party, the Queen of Hearts' Croquet Game, and Alice's encounters with the Caterpillar and Cheshire Cat fuse the spirit of Carroll's words, the vitality of the polished animation, and the stylized look and brilliant palette of designer Mary Blair. But the song "I Give Myself Very Good Advice" and the unsatisfying adaptation of "The Walrus and Carpenter" bring the story to a halt. Disney's Alice in Wonderland remains a beloved film, and its better moments are truly magical. --Charles Solomon

Entertaining
This is probably one of my favourite WD movies. The sheer imagination used to create such things as bread and butterflies, flower choir with singing chrysanthemums, a barking dogwood? plant, the Cheshire Cat, and various other goodies along the way was a delight. I was not overly fond of the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum characters as they were less well drawn and animated as most of the other creations. The Walrus and the Carpenter section would have been rather distressing to young children but it was so well constructed and animated that you had to be impressed with whoever came up with the idea. Even years after it was first shown this is still one of the best animated films I have ever watched, given its age. If you have never watched this Walt Disney movie then I recommend that you give it a go and suspend adult beliefs for a short time.

Good purchase, missing cover though
Would have given 5 stars but was a little disappointed that the dvd arrived without the blue shine cover as shown on the pictures. Maybe the seller wants to look into that? I would be happy to receive the cover if any were available from the seller.

Alice
I bought Alice in Wonderland for my 2 year old granddaughter, as I had loved the book, when I was a child. My granddaughter loves rabbits, and loves this DVD of Alice in Wonderland, she adores Alice, and from the moment the white rabbit appears, she watches intently for the rabbit to reappear. She loves the part where the rabbit runs around stating he is late, loves the moment when Alice eats the carrot from the rabbit, and becomes smaller, loves the dog sweeping away the path, adores the moon which becomes a cheshire cat..........she loves the whole movie, from the quality sound, the superb graphics, and the story of Alice , bringing out the fantasy world of childhood.
