Just brilliant!
I have to be honest, I wasn't sure initially if these speakers would be as good as most of the reviews said they are. However, I'm blown away...they have a real depth and solidity of sound plus excellent detail and they have that ability of being able to put a great big smile on my face! Whether I'm listening to orchestral, jazz, piano or prog rock with Emerson, Lake & Palmer they really, really sing! They look terrific too and the price is unbelievable for this kind of high quality sound. Use some really good gear with these and they deliver, really deliver! Highly recommended. UPDATE! I've now been running these loudspeakers for a few months so they should be run in now. I still stand by what I said earlier. For the asking price they are fabulous with a solid delivery of sound which have a firm bass extension and good detail and clarity at the top end with a nice middle that doesn't take over! For many years I had Yamaha NS1000M Monitors which I absolutely loved. They gave me everything I wanted in high quality sound reproduction. Now I'm not saying these new Yamaha speakers will produce the sound of the NS1000M, I don't expect them to do that, but they create a really good, indeed very, very good sound stage which can at times make me think back to those days with the NS1000M's and make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and like I have said earlier, put a great big smile on my face! At this price, they're very good...no, they are more than that, they're excellent!

These speakers beat my Kef
These speakers beat my Kef floorstanders that cost twice as much, bass, mids, treble its all there in spades but nothing sounds over the top, they are very balanced in sound, they can hit those real low notes after testing right down to 31hz with only a -3db reduction in volume so you will not need a sub in an 18ft livingroom ever, they are bloody loud as well, they sound perfect at low and higher volume, an amazing pair of speakers these and i love my hifi stuff, even at moderate volume levels the drivers hardly move. After being run in for a few hours out of phase with a 5HZ sine tone, these speakers are absolutely phenomenal, really lovely sound to them, warm deep and solid, the highs are crystal clear too. i seriously would not play mp3 on these they will reveal their poor quality, stick to flac and other high res audio formats. be warned though DPD deliver these and my box was severely damaged, luckily the speakers were unharmed. Im not biasing in any way whatsoever these really are THAT good fellas, even my small yamaha desktop pc speakers (yamaha NX-50) are bloody awsome, they sure know how to make a good speaker this company. And that deep bass! wow on a good amp it goes through you. we have to remember here small bookshelf speakers cost the same and are nowhere near as good no matter what the brand is. Absolute pleasure to listen to, i love music like minimal techno and kraftwerk, these are PERFECT for electronic music, also getting 2 sets of the matching surround speaker kits for 7.1 audio, as i have a lot of 7.1 audio on bluray, ive keeping everything in the chain yamaha, no mis-matched brands, the results are breathtaking. Now i m a born tinkerer have done so for 30 odd years as im an electrical engineer, one thing i highly recommend you do to these speakers is the following: Take out the tweeters carefully using the HEX screws and disconnect the wires (spade plugs), once they are out unscrew the 3 pozi screws to open the driver, fit a small amount of speaker wadding inside the center of the dome to stop the tweeters from being pushed in. DO NOT rush this if you bend the coils you will destroy the tweeter, make sure the filling material doesnt obstruct the wire wound speaker coil, the tweeters fitted to these speakers are of high quality and can be fully disassembled including the magnets. This is a 5 minute job from start to finish. Fit more speaker dampening material to the rest of the inside of the cabinets, staple down 1" thick polyester wool all the way around the internal sides, yamaha havent fitted enough from the factory, doing this improves the sound even further including improvement of deep bass and mid bass tones, and fully stops reverberation. Put the speakers on a pair of kitchen granite chopping boards to decouple them from the floor. this is important if you have a wooden floor. My kefs dont stand a chance against these for clarity, kef are full of gimmicks. I love these things as you can probably tell, such a rich warm sound with fantastic deep bass and sizzling highs. Pros: * Will reach 31Hz without turning the volume up Excellent well balanced and solid sound Perfect size for the corners of a living room You will not need a subwoofer they produce solid bass right down to 31Hz which is enough for any music Drivers dont have foam surrounds, they are cloth Sound just as good at low volume as they do high Drivers are wired in parallel not series, 2x12 Ohm drivers = 6 Ohm load per speaker Sound better, MUCH better than my kef that cost twice as much Treble is razor sharp but not overdone Cabinets are built very well Not bi-wirable, trust me on this one, this is a major bonus, bi-wiring speakers is as pointless as a chocolate teacup, a good quality thick gauge wire will always perform much better than 2 sets of cheap stuff. Cons: * The supplied cable is not good enough for these speakers, they only give it you to get you up and running quickly. Use a good quality 12 gauge full copper or silver wire. HIGHLY recommended speakers, no wonder everyone on amazon gives them a 5 star rating, tbh 5 stars is not enough. 10 out of 10

Great sounding speakers at a good price
I moved house recently, and have a larger living room, so I decided to get some floor-standing speakers to replace my Mission bookshelf units. On unpacking the units, I was impressed by the quality of the finish, and how solid, heavy, & well built these speakers are. Connecting them was easy, as I already have good quality speaker cables terminated in banana plugs. When I first started listening to them, I thought they sounded awful, but this was because they were not run in yet. After as little as an hour, they started sounding more natural. I was surprised that the instruction manual doesn't even mention breaking the speakers in! This procedure normally takes around 20-30 hours. They still sound a little 'boomy', however, but I was able to improve this by turning down the bass a little. They may improve after they are fully run in. I opted to remove the grilles, as I think they look and sound better without them. The speakers achieve very good volume levels using my 40W per channel Rotel amplifier. I find the sound very detailed, but also quite laid-back compared to my previous monitor speakers. I know it's a bit of a cliché, but with these speakers, I really do hear details in the music I havn't heard before, especially in the bass range! Overall, I'm very impressed with them, although I've knocked a star off because the bass resonates rather too much. This may improve as they settle down, however. Update: After using for nearly 2 weeks, my speakers are well & truly run-in, and they are indeed less boomy and sound much smoother now. They seem to be sounding better & better with use. Further update: I had some people looking round my house the other day, and one little b***** dented one of my dome tweeters! So I thought I'd share how I fixed it. Firstly, I unscrewed the 3 allen bolts, & removed & unplugged the driver. Then I sucked out the dent. After this, there were still a couple of small creases in the plastic, so I warmed it with a hairdryer on high setting & the marks vanished! You'd never know it had been damaged, and it sounds as good as ever!
