Deco Art DuraClear Polyurethane Matte Varnish, 236 ml (Pack of 1)

Best varnish I've used, and I've tried DOZENS. Does not leave brush strokes which is like the holy grail of varnish!! (Over paper/card that is, I cannot speak for its coverage over other surfaces). And a true matt finish (unlike other supposed "matt"s I've bought), you wouldn't even know it was there, it almost soaks into the paper and disappears. Absolutely glorious product, cannot understand the bad reviews, I'm glad I ignored them and took a punt on this product. Will be ordering again

I received this earlier today and immediately varnished half of the back of a single trial piece of work as I was concerned about the number of reviews that state the varnish is not matt, but leaves a shiny or glossy finish. I was pleasantly surprised to find the varnish dried completely matt. In fact, I had to view the piece in daylight to see which half of the piece had been varnished. There was very little difference and it is definitely matt. All I can suggest to others is that they shake the bottle well to ensure the contents are well mixed, try on a small piece before applying to something you've spent a long time creating and await the outcome. I found the varnish dried really quickly, in around 10 minutes so I've been able to varnish all my pieces and leave a review in the same day! And also, Deco Art varnish is cruelty free so I'll continue to purchase this product and others in the range. The only issue I have is that it isn't sold in a larger size. It does go a long way but bigger bottles are usually more cost effective, so this option would be appreciated. Edit; After varnishing another half dozen different pieces which took many hours to decorate, I've noticed that the varnish looks a little patchy in some areas. It is matt and definitely not shiny in any way. However, it does make the finished pieces look less than perfect so I'm not overly happy with the finish when used on pieces where the colour is mostly a solid colour. It works really well on pieces that have a more busy finish where there isn't a large area of one, flat colour without any other embellishment to distract the eye. I will persevere however and create some test pieces to see if I can resolve the issue. I wanted to add this edit so people are aware of the issue I've experienced.

With a 50:50 dilution with water this varnish gives a smooth matte finish that is heat and water resistant, making it perfect for coasters (note: depending on how the coaster is created it may need sealing with acrylic spray first). I've tried many products and this is by far the best for this purpose. Don't know about longevity of the coating yet. Only one 8 oz bottle was received though not the 2 in the product description hence the loss of star on value for money.

Easy to use

I painted some slate place matts and used this as a top coat and it worked out really well! It was easy to use and I am very happy with this product!

Definitely not matte, more like satin. There is another one in the range that is more matte. Nice to use like all the Deco art products.

Goes on easily, and dries to a beautiful matt sheen. I used it to protect my garden ornaments after painting them with patio paints. I have yet to see how long it protects them but the finish is very nice.

Una volta secco non emette alcun odore e lascia una patina non lucida ma neanche opaca, direi un ottimo compromesso. L'ho usato per proteggere e impermeabilizzare ulteriormente un chápán 茶盘 in bambù e sono pienamente soddisfatto, resiste perfettamente all'acqua, anche quando è bollente o se rimane bagnato a lungo

It works perfectly. Easy to paint on, doesn’t discolour anything, and keeps the paint from getting damaged.

The varnish does its job and sealed my clay piece pretty good

This varnish is so easy to work with, dries very quicky and leaves a beautiful matte finish. I applied 2 coats and reordered a second bottle after trying it for the first time so - I'm sure to always have it on hand! They both arrived quickly and well packaged.
