PetSafe 2-Piece Sliding Glass Cat and Dog Door - No Cutting, Durable, Weather Resistant - Large

We moved into a property with old style patio doors, we needed to figure out how the cats could access the conservatory (via the patio) and I happened upon this, wow! This is a temporary fix until we can get the patio doors replaced but until then, this is an awesome solution for us. This is one of those products that I've come across in my life as a cat owner that has me astounded at the ingenuity, the other being rigid pvc vertical blinds.

Pros Easy to install, Dogo loves it, the flap can be closed from inside for night. Mostly weather proof. Cons. The old sliding door comes and closed to this pet door with a new latch but there is no lock/key. Don’t feel very comfortable to leave like this during holiday. So for long holiday I will take this out and use the old way. If they had provided a lock and key then it would have been awesome.

I bought the exact same thing when I lived in the states for a QUARTER of the price and it was perfect. This product’s quality is not very good, not worth the money. The weather stripping doesn’t stay on for more than 5 minutes before falling off, and with temperatures outside below freezing right now, my house is insanely cold due to this. It doesn’t fit great either and has gaps all around. Requires a lot of drilling into metal as well. The flap also doesn’t always close, allowing even more cold in. WOULD RETURN IF I COULD.

The pet safe panel arrived today in a smaller box than expected box as it consists of 2 panels that you attach together. It's easily done. It fits into the track for my sliding aluminium doors without fuss, adjusting easily to the height of the door. Fixing in place was easy. I don't suppose it's especially burglar proof and I imagine that anyone could easily break through if sufficiently motivated as the panel is only attached to the frame with 4 small screws. Also the shape of my doors was such that the lock supplied won't work. Purchase of an aftermarket lock might help matters. I was worried my rather portly feline wouldn't fit through, as I got the small size. He's nearly 8kg, but I'm the end he gets through just fine. I'm pleased with this. It is only intended to be a temporary solution as we'll be installing new doors as part of a wider renovation project in a year's time. But this has saved me from spending north of 500 quid on a new double glazed unit that will get thrown out in a year

The product seems pretty well made but instructions vary from what’s received. The T bars that were supplied do not allow enough room for the sliding door to pass over and the screw heads that fix the panel height do not counter sink so will not go past the frame of the existing sliding door meaning I could only fix into one side. Weather strip keeps falling off so a little redundant. All in all it’s ok but I wouldn’t buy it again.

This has been a life saver. Very effective and fits into the space needed. Happy I purchased this. Dogs and I are happy. Value for money and the flap fits my dog sizes very well. It opens and closes well.

Two major issues with this door: the Pet flap size and Home safety. Do not buy a "Large" for a dog bigger than a Female Standard Poodle (42lb) or taller than 24in at the withers. Look else where, or you do you. Pet flap size: ~10in Length × ~16 1/2in Height Pet flap size issue: I have had this door for a while now and luckily my dog is still young that she can squeeze through the flap by crouching but can't imagine an actual Large/ Giant breed of dog getting through this. Yet this claims it's for "Large" 1-100lb dogs which is very misleading. I suppose a slightly bigger dog than mine could crouch and squeeze through but it would be very uncomfortable over long periods of time, especially if you have a nervous or senior dog. Home safety issue: If you have a old rented property that has a sliding door like mine good luck securing the insert into place. Since I can't drill any holes for the latch his can never be secured so I can't leave it in permantly. Also the sliding door itself can't be properly locked with the insert in, as the latches provided are pretty flimsy and can be easily unlocked. I know that's not the all the manufacturer's fault but might be something to consider to add to the door for future products designs, not only for renters but for overall better safety if the company is all about "saftey". Extra: The cover for the flap is a nice add on to prevent animals going in and out, BUT someone can definitely slide the flap cover up from the outside to get into your house, so don't think that flap cover will protect you from unwanted guests. In short the door insert works fine as a stand alone for temporary usage for renters if you don't care about proper home safety. The dog flap sizes are misleading but as long as you have a small enough pet to fit through the flap even for their biggest size a "Large" then your solid.

Arrived intact given the packaging, relatively simple instructions and guidance. Bit of a ballache to fit as my patio doors seemed to be slightly offset by 1cm which left a gap at the top. Best to get in and deep clean, Hoover and scrape to ensure a tight fit. Plenty of adhesive and filler required also to make it weatherproof but way cheaper than any alternatives and good value for money. Just put a bit more time aside when installing. It looks like a doddle but it's quite unforgiving if your existing gaps and lines are not 100% true!

This is a great pet door, it works very well. The only issue is the magnetic strip isn't very strong so it opens quite easily by gusts of wind, which can let water in when its raining. So I wish that it could be a little stronger. But this tiny issue would allow for smaller pets to go though it easier. Another thing that is great about it is how quiet it actually is. We used to have another doggie door in the past and it used to be annoyingly loud. But this one is very silent and sometimes you can't even hear your pet walk though the door when your in the same room.

Rated a star lower because the price was raised. Expensive for the materials used, it was way cheaper a few months ago when I first saw it, but fits perfectly for my balcony door. The flap is a bit heavy, my cats manage to push it most of the time but my Pomeranian puppy can’t so I removed the flap for the time being but will have to return it when it gets warmer

In de winter is het fijn als de deur dicht kan maar dat onze hond nog wel de vrijheid heeft om naar buiten te gaan. Het materiaal is nou niet echt een stevige constructie. We hebben er een houten frame o.heen gemaakt niet inde laatste plaats omdat hij te laag was voor onze pui. Wat ik overigens van te voren al wist. Ik ben opzich tevreden maar vind de kwaliteit en prijs verhouding niet passen.

We purchased this door so our cat could go in and out when we were on vacation. We didn't permanently install it, and it still works great--so well we are thinking of keeping it full-time. This is a great option if you are a renter and can't make permanent changes to your home but want to make sure your cat can come and go as they please. The cat door matches with my existing sliding glass door and looks attractive when installed. Installation was easy and I can pop it out of the frame when I don't want to use it. I highly recommend this door! Some possible drawbacks to consider: 1) lack of insulation between cat door and sliding glass door may be a concern in the winter. I'm considering putting some weather stripping to make sure it doesn't leak. 2) security: If you live in an area where there are frequent break-ins, this door is not for you, since it is easily removable. 3) space: the amount of space I have to get laundry baskets and other larger items out the sliding glass door is considerably smaller with the cat door installed. There's definitely enough room for any normal or larger sized person to get out, but it is smaller. While I consider the trade off to be worth it, you may feel otherwise.
