Smart purchase to cover us a stupid mistake
I had a previous bad experience with VAX when I purchased their then top-of-the-range carpet cleaner. The machine itself was disappointing, and the customer service was equally poor. It was one of my worst purchases ever. Long story short was the new improved design with scrubbers did not work with wool carpets, simply ripped them to shreds, post-purchase, and too late, I noted that others had experienced the exact same problem. I would assume that VAX test their products on various carpets so would have know that it was unsuitable for such carpets, but they did not state that, and worse, they denied there was even a problem. It was such a negative experience from start to finish that I vowed never to buy a VAX product againHowever, I recently had a lapse in judgement and decided to do some painting without protecting the carpet. Predictably, this didn’t end well. To make matters worse, my attempt to clean up the paint spills with soap and water only made the situation more disastrous. In the past, I’ve had good results hiring a Rug Doctor, but the hassle of renting one didn’t feel worth it this time for just a specific area.Instead, I decided to research carpet spot cleaners and was surprised to find VAX consistently ranked as the best option. While I initially considered the cordless model, I ultimately opted for the plug-in version, reasoning that it would likely have more power. For me, effective results matter more than convenience when it comes to carpet cleaning.Even though I generally prefer Kärcher products, I decided to give VAX another chance based on the strong reviews. My SpotWash Home Duo arrived three days after the paint spill, and I put it to work the following morning. Despite its simple design, the results were impressive—the paint stains vanished completely, earning it full marks from me.The SpotWash Home Duo has a compact design, which makes it easier to store. While it’s a bit annoying that only two of the accessories can be attached to the machine for storage, this is a minor issue. I found that the left over accessories can be stored in the waste water container. The machine is not quiet, the hose is sufficiently long enough for easy use, and the power cable is a decent length, so will need an extension cord less often. Releasing the clean and dirty fluid containers very easy. The attachments provided are versatile and should prove useful for various tasks, although I expect it will be less frequently used on hard floors, as spills on these surfaces are generally easier to clean. Compared to larger carpet cleaners I’ve borrowed, hired, or owned in the past which, and when owned, often spend most of the time taking up cupboard space - this spot cleaner is a much more practical choice. It is going to be particularly handy for tackling spills on carpets and cleaning the car.One thing to note is that the cleaned area remains damp when finished—more so than when using a full-sized carpet cleaner, this is confirmed when comparing the amount of cleaning fluid used and the amount of dirty fluid collected.Note that this machine is specifically designed for spot cleaning, not large areas, this needs to be appreciated to avoid disappointment. I did try cleaning a flight of carpeted stairs and although it cleaned, it took four refills and I had only managed six steps. There are different models with smaller capacity, I personally wouldn't want any with less fluid, it is just about right. The crevice tool is very useful, especially good for the stair carpets that have accumulated dirt along the edges.Overall, my first impressions are very positive. The SpotWash Home Duo is compact, effective, and value for money. It’s surprisingly good at removing dirt, even though the process is simple: it sprays detergent, agitates the fabric, and then sucks it up. For now, I’m pleased to say this purchase feels like a winner.

GREAT PRODUCT
Great product had an upright Vax before. Very durable, mine lasted over 8 years years and very effective in removing stains and dirtThe tank is too small so I had to exchange for a larger tank. Amazon did not have this on offer so I had to go to vax. Buying under offer makes this product very good valueIt is compact and stores well and looks nice. the extra tools are great.

Great for small spot-cleans
We have had this for a few weeks now and have used it quite successfully on a few items.First things first, this is very much a cleaner for smaller sized areas and is not a substitute for one one of the bigger carpet cleaners.I've used it on the rubber backed rug/mat that sits just inside our porch, best described as a slightly larger door mat. It performed very well and by the time i'd given it a couple of going over with the machine, I had full colour restored. We are a family of 3 adults and 2 dogs, this mat is the first line in defense when entering the house and takes the brunt of the bad weather that you bring in on your shoes. I did have to do the mat twice, but that's more likely down to me being conservative with the amount of solution I sprayed out rather than anything to do with the machine. The next area I tackled was a living room rug which is various shades of grays and light blues, and is almost white in places. This is where the dogs like to scratch their back and is dead centre of the room, so it takes a bit of a pounding traffic wise. It's a much larger rug and had more pile than the porch mat. Again, it took a couple of full tanks to get the rug looking almost like new again but I was impressed and somewhat embarrassed at how much dirt lay within the rug. We do hoover most days but the pile in the rug certainly hides a lot of dust and dirtThe machine worked so well on the small spot test I did I had no option than to do the whole rug as it left a very obvious clean spot!*Warning - this section contains reference to a poorly dog*The next test was a beige bedroom carpet, on a morning after a poorly dog had vomited on the carpet during the night. This is exactly what the machine is designed for I feel. The accident happened around 3am so it was a case of mop up the liquidy mess with some towels as best we could, use some hot water and loads of Febreze on it and settle for the machine clean in the morning. The problem with that type of clean-up is all you're really doing is diluting what was deposited on the carpet. Without the means to remove it, then you're effectively only applying a sticking plaster, so to speakThe dog required the vets first thing, it had (best guess) eaten a snail or slug in the garden and this was the cause of the sickness. So, later than I expected I tackled the obvious staining from the night before. The machine cleaned it up no problem, the yellow green mess that was still showing in the carpet was gone entirely after a cleaning session with the Vax. I gave it two goes just for the sake of it but one would have been sufficient. So, the pro's and consPROThe machine is not too heavyHoses flex easily meaning you’re able to get into small tight spots with easeThe suction is strong and you can see the contaminated liquid getting lifted straight awayIt feels 'right' in your hand, the trigger sits at just the right spotCONSThe size of both the output and intake containers are very small (for a big spill you will go through a couple of runs on the output solution, I also had a basin beside me so I could empty the waste water rather than keep going back and forward to the sink) Bigger containers would obviously add to the weight, but it would save you getting up and down as often when you're cleaning a spill. The cost of the cleaning solution I feel is expensive. As an engineer, I do not believe one type of cleaner will have any detrimental effect on the machine over another, so for me I bought a 5L drum of carpet cleaner for a fraction of the cost of the Vax solution and it works perfectly, and smells better than the Vax liquid. For occasional use I'm very happy with the product. I have in the main wooden floors with a few rugs spread around. If I had a home entirely carpeted and was looking for a Vax, then I'd be aiming for a more substantial machine than this, if for nothing else than to save having to refill and empty the machine as often. But for what it's designed to do I’m more than pleased with the results and it also tackles spills with easeOh…I meant to add, the dog is fine and we’ve had no repeats

Brilliant bit of kit
Only had machine for a day, but used it on stairs and car seats straight away. Could not believe the dirt that came out, carpet looks like new. Car seats might need one more go, but already look much better. This is going to be a busy little machine. Easy to use, wish I’d got it sooner. Keep sending pics of the dirty water to friends, saying, quick, you got to get this vax. Love it, especially as I have pets.
