If your circle of friends includes any guitar players, take this little test. Ask them if they are familiar with Eddie Hazel's Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs. Chances are their eyes will widen, followed by an exclamation something like "I thought I was the only one who knew about that record!" Indeed, knowledge of this relatively obscure album is something of a secret handshake among axe men, because the guitar work on it is flat-out incredible. But then, you had to be a bad mutha to be in a band with George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell and the rest of the Parliament/Funkadelic mothership, and that s where a 17 year-old Eddie Hazel found himself in 1967, as the new guitar player in the Parliaments. Over the next ten years, Hazel would become an instrumental mainstay in P-Funk, most notably on Fender Strat showcases like "Maggot Brain" and "Dollar Bill," which he co-wrote. By the time he recorded this album in 1977, however, Hazel was out of the band, beset by personal problems that led to his premature demise in 1992 and which also explain at least in part why this album never reached commercial liftoff. All of the aforementioned P-Funk notables are here, along with the Brides of Funkenstein on vocals, but this is Eddie's show, as he lets loose with one coruscating, psychedelic funk lead after another over a mixture of George Clinton-penned originals and covers of "California Dreamin'" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." Our Real Gone reissue features liner notes and photos inside a gatefold-style wallet. You don't have to be a guitar player to need this one.

Good Album poor reissue pressing
I've had CD since the 90's so I'm familiar with the music. I don't have the original LP release to compare, but this LP pressing is poor with a noticeable rumble of background noise when you drop the needle on the record. Too bad P-Funk never gets the audiophile reissue treatments.

Ode to "Smeero"
I grew up on Funkadelic music, having heard "Free your mind..." at the age of nine. For me, that album created a mystique about the original Funk Mob that to this day still exists. Part of the reason for that is that the group failed to stay intact for very long. But a more significant reason is Eddie's guitar playing. He created a searing, haunting sound that pierced the soul. As I grew older I became a stark, raving "Funkadelic Maggot", and as soon as I saw this solo album in the store, it was mine. I thought it was a slight deviation from the Funkadelic style, but it was still "cold-blooded ghetto rock". For a Black man, a bluesed-up version of "California Dreamin'" brought it home. Not only with his guitar playing, but also with his voice, Eddie made this song his own and turned it out! The entire album displayed his versatility and much-overlooked talent. I wish I had been old enough (or lived in the right town) to have witnessed him performing live. Fortunately now, there is video footage of him on You-tube (Bless you,Internet!). In conclussion, I'd just like to say that I will be a P-Funk Maggot and Eddie Hazel fan forever. FUNK ON,Y'ALL!!

So so good at guitar
Obviously every song has mind blowing guitar. The best being the end of Physical Love where Senor Hazel is playing some of the most intense guitar i've ever heard. The problem is that the guitar on that part is the least prominent instrument, but there is some sweet synth keyboard I think Bernie Worrell was playing his keyboard underwater. Anywho California Dreamin', Physical Love, and What about it? sell this cd. The "I want you (She's so heavy)" cover is fantastic and has a good little jam in between. Frantic Moment and So goes the story are odd, but who cares it's Eddie Hazel. For those of you who don't know Eddie Hazel is one of the greatest guitartists of all time, but unfortunately had a short life like many other musicians. Rest in P Eddie.PS. There is quote that describes funk perfectly in the liner notes.

Game,Dames, & Guitar Thangs
Game,Dames, & Guitar Thangs is a work of a master Guitar player. Mr. Hazel dosen't have a large body of music, but what he made was perfect. I have the album, so now I have the CD. George Clinton had a way of finding the "One." It's a short disc, but the groove will keep you playing it over and over, at least I do.

Excellent guitar playing by Eddie Hazel in his first solo ...
Excellent guitar playing by Eddie Hazel in his first solo album. Includes sublime covers of California Dreamin' and I Want You (She's So Heavy). Worth a listen if you are an early 1970's Funkadelic or Childish Gambino fan.

This LP is on the money.Eddie Hazel was one of the greatest guitarist of all time.He wasn't known for his vocal abilities, but like many P-funk members he could belt out a tune.He adds a funky twist to his version af California Dreaming, which happens to be my favorite song on the LP.Physical love is not as funky as Bootsy's,but it's in there.Overall I think any true funkateer would love this LP.

Vergleiche...
...hinken hier. Feinste Höhen sucht man vergebens. Top. Schnelle Lieferung aus UK.

Unkut FUNK from da heart...
