Enjoy The Gift of Chanting!
I ran across Rabbi Shefa Gold via a internet search for Hebrew chants in my search there were a few chants she recorded that I found very helpful. I decided I wanted to know more about her use of spiritual scripture in chanting and decided to purchase this book. This book is very inspirational and will inspire the reader to develop and perfect his/her own methods of utilizing of scripture in chanting.

"A Blessing"
Great book, your intention was a blessing to me. I was also able to go on you tube and hear the Rabbi explain and then chant. Added peace, enlightenment and joy to my own meditation. Loved that she explained the Hebrew words of chant in the sense of our language, English. Kudos to you Rabbi. Sharing you giftedness can only increase your blessings. Praise G--- may they be heaped upon you.

a deeper level of song
Although I find myself ambivalent about Shefa Gold's recordings/cd's, this book is wonderful. In it she describes her process of moving from the words of Jewish prayer, which can be overwhelming and distracting and distancing by their sheer volume, into the refinement of a single phrase. From there she moves into deep contemplation. What makes it extraordinary is that she describes how different aspects of both herself and of others in a chant group move the entire group to a different dimension. For those interested in accessing spirituality it is invaluable.

Good chant but not about public worship
I ordered this book in order to learn more about music in Jewish public worship. This was not the intent of Rabbi Gold and her emphasis was much more on the spiritual nature of chant on an individual basis. It probably achieved this goal 5 stars worth, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

Sensitive and profound
Rabbi Shefa Gold continues to help us all deepen our work as we witness her own deepening. Her willingness to write this book is but one example of her generosity of spirit. Shefa is willing to let us see the how and why of this spiritual practice and make it our own.

Extremely disappointing
If I'm not mistaken, the author is Reconstructionist. The author does not really believe in a Supreme Being. So, I don't know how she can call it "Hebrew" chant. If you are New Age or Buddhist but chanting in Hebrew, does that make it "Hebrew" chant? You decide. But this is traditional Hebrew chant - because traditional Hebrew chant involves chanting to The Supreme Being. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would.
