Playbook for becoming or improving on being an in-house counsel
I had this book on my shelf for a few months but, with some time at hand, I dug into it. I found the book engaging, entertaining, fun and easy to read. However, the virtues of the book do not lie there but in the thought-provoking content, full of tips and insights. There are nuances and subtleties in the role of a GC that this book shows clear as day, as opposed to being an outside counsel. This is a very easy-to-implement playbook for both becoming an in-house counsel or improving skills if you're already in-house.

A must read for in house lawyers & those that work with in house lawyers
I have just finished reading Peter Carayiannis first book (to my knowledge) on how to excel at being a corporate counsel.Wow! Not that I was ever an in house counsel but this book opened my eyes not only to the role, challenges and opportunities awaiting in house lawyers but also to the similarities and differences between in house and private law firms. So so much to unpack in this book.On one level this is a story about Anna who left her role in Biglaw for In House and her personal learnings and development into being the best in house lawyer she could possibly be to add immense value to the company she worked for.On another level at the end of each Chapter Peter cleverly relates Key TakeAways based on his years of experience in the law in both running his own innovative and ground breaking legal practice and dealing with corporate counsel that would resonate with any in house lawyer. Not only in my view is this a must read for any new corporate counsel, it should be compulsory reading for any existing corporate counsel that might be looking for practical guidance on how to be of even greater benefit to the organisation that employs them. Finally if I were a private practice lawyer and corporate counsel were my clients, I would devour this book from cover to cover to better understand the real role of an inhouse lawyer and how I might change the way I interact with them to add genuine sustainable mutual value and make my clients role just that little bit easier.

Creative, practical, insightful, and unexpectedly empowering
I had high expectations for this book and the author exceeded them. The author packaged the "expert advice on becoming a successful in-house lawyer" in a way that caters to different audiences. The lessons are taught through a story format with character development as the story progresses, with "key takeaways" at the end of each chapter. The images were a great addition and make the content more memorable for visual learners. As a reader you will immediately start rooting for Anna and learn some great lessons as you follow her journey. The ending was perfect and it made me want to read another book about Anna's adventures. Maybe in the next book Anna will start her own law firm working with other in-house counsel? This is not only a must-read for lawyers, but also for anyone that one day wants to be an in-house lawyer as the book provides valuable insight on what the role entails.

Easy Read. Very Good, Practical Advice.
I read this book while on leave from lawyering and have since re-read key takeaways from various chapters that I'm finding particularly helpful as I re-enter practise.I was pleasantly surprised by the unique format of the book and found it very easy to read (unlike many law books). Following along as Anna navigated the learning curve of her new in-house role kept me curious and engaged, and the key takeaways at the end of each chapter provide practical, tangible advice.I know I'll come back to these key takeaway as I navigate my own learning curves in the days (years!) to come. I'm an seven year call currently working in-house - I've highly recommended the book to my lawyer peers. Thanks for a great book, Peter! BBE.
