Afternoon of the Elves Hardcover – May 16, 2017

My son learned a lot from this book. He matured so much and exhibited a much more grateful spirit for the blessings he has after our reading about Sarah Kate. Thankful we had the opportunity.

So thought-provoking. I read this as a child, then shared it with my daughter years later. We don’t all have to fit into the same mold, always keep up “respectable” appearances.

Every kid should have to read this! It's about fantasy and morals.There is so much to learn from this story.I read it when I was about 11 and I have to say it really stuck with me. A lot of the books I’ve read shaped my perspectives. Another good one was “all in a summers day” by ray Bradbury.Now more than ever, I think kids need books- and they need to read books that teach empathy.

I wished it had a better ending. I like that she wrote a good story and put a lot of detail into it.

Now I am reading it to my kids

A light, pleasant, but thoughtful read. I recommend it for readers of all ages. Makes me want to head out and scout out signs of elves myself.

Mysterious little story that was in the top 5 books of the year when I taught 4th grade for many years. Gave it to my granddaughter for Christmas. Hope she likes it as much as my students.

Beautifully written, compelling and NOT a good book for anyone under 12. Young children need to feel supported and safe and this book leaves lots of worries and an open ended conclusion that I think they will find worrisome.

I enjoyed the freshness of this story in its ability to let you see with different eyes through the perspective of a child. Shall be trying more from this author in the future. Not what I was expecting at all. Also I liked the illustrated life story at the end which was also interesting.

Beautiful little book, my 8 year old granddaughter will love reading this enchanting story, a lovely part of her Christmas.

学校で、変わり者として評判の、やせっぽっちで、小さなSara-Kate。そんな彼女が、Hillaryにだけ見せた、秘密。裏庭の妖精の村、自転車の車輪でできた観覧車。そして、Sara-Kateの住む、カーテンの閉め切られた、荒れた家。二階の窓から覗く、やせた、青白い顔…空想と嘘、幻想と現実、見えるものと見えないもの、魔法、秘密、あこがれ、恐れ、虚像、疑い。その中の真実。そんなものが交錯して、まるで、荒涼とした森の中に迷い込んだような不思議な感じです。でも、その裏に隠された現実は、けっしておとぎ話ではありません。世界からも、時間の流れからも隔離されたような、Sara-Kateの世界と、その世界の崩壊。荒涼とした森の中に取り残されそうな最後の展開の中で、最後にHillaryが信じたものが、少し救いでした。
