I needed this
I have avoided a smart watch for years and finally decided to give up the fight and get one. I hate the look of the square Apple watches and mostly think they are over-priced and faddish. I wanted something that would give me the look of a traditional watch and after watching a ton of reviews on YouTube, I decided on the Galaxy Watch 5.I love the watch but hate the band. I am not reviewing the band but it does seem like if they offer you a classy looking watch they could offer something other than the plastic bands. The setup is extremely easy with the app downloaded on the phone. I have a Samsung phone which may have made it easier and I don't think all the functions work with other Android phones. I love all the features and integration of the numerous health and lifestyle apps. When I am sitting around the house and have my Samsung phone on the table next to me or in another room, it is great to just look at my wrist to keep up with texts and emails instead of having to chase my phone down.I followed the tips and tricks from a couple of the instructional videos online and find that the battery has adequate life. I charge my phone every nigh so it is no big deal to have the watch off my wrist for an hour or so during the day so it can charge back up. I keep the display in the "Always On" mode except when I go to bed. I then turn that mode off and set the face to a dim display so it doesn't beam in my face when I turn over at night. Even with the Always On mode activated, the display does go to a dimmer mode after a few seconds. Twisting your wrist or using the other functions will bring it back to full brightness. The watch had a full charge on it around 10 AM yesterday and today at 5 PM it is showing 54% of the charge remaining.Being a retired worker and family room supervisor I didn't wear a watch most days anyway unless I was going out. I am wearing this constantly except when it is charging or I am taking a shower. I find that it is extremely comfortable (except when I had a cheap 3rd party metal band installed on it that cut into my wrist). Even though the silicone band is cheesy. The body of the watch is very light weight and comfortable. The bottom line...it has every function available that you could ever want or need and it can be dressed up to give it almost any look you like. I went with the brushed aluminum face so I can put a nice metal band on it and wear it to a senior citizen's prom, or put the silicon band back on for a sweaty sports event. (The one complaint I do have is, the spring clip on the band are a real pain to get clipped back if you are into switching bands. It took me about 10 minutes of fiddling this morning to get those tiny pins back in place. Every time I though I had them locked in, when I tugged on the band, I had the watch in one had and half the strap in the other). It's nice to read all the reviews here, but for the best impression of the watch I found it more useful to watch the evaluation videos online, especially the tips, tricks, and suggested functions that you should install once you power the watch up.

The BEST Smartwatch I've Owned
Best Smartwatch I have owned. I previously had a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Huawei Watch 2 Sport Smartwatch, a Fossil Carlyle Gen 5, and Fitbit Charge 2, 3, and 4. THIS watch blows them ALL away!Pros:First of all, I have to point out that the Galaxy Watch 5 is so much lighter, it feels like the weight of a traditional watch. This was surprising because the battery life is so much better, this watch could run for nearly 3 days without a charge. Unlike previous watches, which at their best could only provide 1 daytime of use and needed to be recharged nightly. I can finally sleep with this watch through the night comfortably and see accurate stats for my sleep quality. It packs all the features you should expect from a Smartwatch and executes them so well. The integration with an android phone is just as easy as previous generations of Wear OS watches using the Wear OS app, but this one uses Samsung's Galaxy Wearable app. From a great little display, with UI that uses the space well while still being very informative and not an eye strain, allowing you to see time and notifications at a glance to the health sensors that can read your pulse, your skin temperature, your oxygen levels, your stress, your body composition, even ECG readings if you have a Samsung Phone as well, this watch covers the full slew of features. Notifications come through the watch as soon as they are on your phone. NFC payments are easy to use, so perhaps you can forego bringing your wallet or at least not having to pull it out of your pocket. Tracking walks and other exercise activity is easy as well.Cons:The fact you must have a Samsung phone for the ECG feature is very frustrating. The feature is built into the watch, the phone should not matter. The integration with other fitness apps and Health Connect is finicky and often requires stopping access and providing it again. Working with more fitness applications and services such as Virgin Pulse or even just better integration with Google Fit would improve the experience. Conclusion:A real smartwatch that can be used as a phone accessory and still look great while running for a lot longer than some other brands!
