I love this thing
I am very impressed with the quality and variety (there's 120 snare drums!, timpani...) of the sounds. The ability to layer and modify sounds is very useful. The way I programmed mine, I am using it as a set without pedals. I programmed some of the pads (HH, Ride) to add a bass drum when I hit them harder, so I can play bass drum and HH/cymbal with one stick. The manual is not that great, but there are enough Youtube videos out there to get you started. I had a technical support question and they replied within 24 hours with a resolution to my issue. (FYI - to hook up your iPad follow steps 3-5 only on page 13 of the manual). The iPad app is great, except it keeps crashing (especially on saving---though I am able to re-open it and Save prior changes). I bought a small drum amp for the DTX and was unhappy with the sound, then got the Roland PM-100 80W amp which is great for practice and playing small rooms.

Fantastic For Adding Live Drum Sounds
This Yamaha DTX Multi Pad is one of the better musical equipment purchases I've made in a long time. I read a lot of reviews of this and similar drum pads from other manufacturers and decided to drop the money on the Yamaha. Have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. The stock sounds are decent, although it lacks many natural sounding kits but with the user presets I was able to build several kits using samples I already own, such as Gretsch kit, Ludwig kit, Taiko drums and roto toms. I use this for recording natural sounding fills over top of programmed loops to give my recordings a more organic feel. The pads are very responsive play very precise. The unit itself is very sturdy and well built. All in all, this was a wonderful addition to my home studio. If it were lost or stolen, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again !

Great collection of sounds and instruments
Great collection of sounds and instruments, but very poor manual. Very difficult to learn how to layer sounds, how to change rhythms and no instruction on how to use their software. Some tutorials are needed on U Tube by Yamaha, so people can make better use of this great sound machine, that is why I am giving 3 stars, Those who are not expert musicians, but have real interest in rhythmic sounds should be able to use this music box.

Like it 👍
It is good 👍 with dtx sounds. I am enjoying after purchase. Able to install new tunes and have ability to play with hands, fingers and sticks. Portability is good and need explore little on how to operate and make different settings. After that it is easy to use. Coming volume control if I connect input audio and output headset and speakers volume control sometimes would be difficult to adjust properly with input audio and output drum sounds. Overall it is very good one 👍

Great for use in a studio, but UI blows.
This is a great drum pad. It's a little difficult to follow the convoluted UI, but after working with it for a few months and going over the manual many times, I understand the logic of why they did what they did, but ultimately it's a pretty bad and unintuitive layout. That aside, the playability is what is of primary importance to me and it shines in that area. Very flexible and controllable. I'm using the Yamaha hi-hat trigger pedal and a Roland kick drum trigger which both work flawlessly. Though don't expect to use a Roland hi-hat trigger pedal with this unit as it won't work. Connectivity with my sequencer (protools) is flawless. Good drivers and phone support is good. You can quickly get in contact with a knowledgeable product specialist which I really value.

I did alot of research before i grabbed this. Its great. Layout is natural for me feels good. Yeah a begginer can pick this up and cycle through the 50 presets but in order to get the full feel you gotta cycle through the voice menus and create your own kits. As i am tech savy i can navigate easily but the manual is so vague that a begginer would have paid nearly 700 for a 50 generic preset with realistically 10 usable ones. This thing once you get the hang of it is fun as hell. A plus is being able to set any kit to finger use just in case you have tots and you feel lile midnight slow jammin in the pale moon light. Lol

Horrible bounce characteristics
I wish they had negative stars b/c this isn't even worth 1 star. I am completely dumfounded that they would even release to for sale to drummers!!! Didn't they consult with any drummers at all? Just unbelievable!! The pads have the worst possible bounce characteristics in the planet! I would do better drumming on my pillows!!! It has some kind of mushy dampened silicon like surface similar to say the Roland vDrum pedal.

The perfect solution when space/funding is a challenge for band/orchestra percussion.
This electronic drum pad is AMAZING. I purchased it primarily for the timpani samples, allowing my youth orchestra percussionist to play a variety of instruments we do not have the space or manpower to move into the community center where we play. The quality of the sound when plugged into an amplifier of significant wattage is very impressive. We actually had a few of our own music staff who were initially outside talking to students comment to me, "when did we get the new timpani? They sound great!" and they were floored when they came into the rehearsal room and saw they were electronic!

What an incredible instrument. Intuitive to operate and wonderful sounds - and lots of them. All at a fraction of the price of the Roland sample pad. The pads have a good feel and the dynamic response is excellent. The size is great for fitting in my acoustic kit between the cymbals.
