Easy read and is like having a mentor on my bookshelf
Easy read and well laid out. I cannot wait to put it to work. Chapters are short. I was hesitant to buy since the rating total was so small, but I’ve really enjoyed the book so far!

An outstanding how-to on building PMOs
I had not heard of Dow or his book until I told a colleague that I was going to be working on one. I'd done some before but he highly recommended this book. I definitely agree. It goes into great detail on what you MUST do on setting up a PMO. It even goes into some depth on the all-important area of governance. He also has some downloadable templates. This book paid for itself. If you're setting up a PMO, buy it.

This book is best suited for organizations that want to implement a PMO ...
As the name suggests, this is a book that discusses starting and running a PMO. Effective project management is an important factor in the success of projects and of companies. This book captures many real world problems that PMO’s face. This book is best suited for organizations that want to implement a PMO or increase efficiency in delivering project. Success in managing projects depends on how mature an organization is with respect to Project Management. Therefore, I believe the best method to make use of the material in this book is when key personnel collectively read this book together either chapter wise per week or through an in-house seminar. However, the topic itself is a dry one (just being honest). But the author has tried to overcome the heavy weight of the topic with interesting examples and interactive writing style.

I highly recommend that you add this book to your knowledge base
I recently got a copy of Bill's new book - The PMO Lifecycle - Building, Running, and Shutting Down. I have had Bill's first book "The Tactical Guide to Building a PMO" on my desk for several years. It was the first book I purchased to help develop a solid foundation for the PMO I was responsible for developing. I use this as a reference still today, keeping it in a small number of books that are always visible on my desk. With this new book, the PMO Lifecycle, Bill has expanded on the original content is many ways. There is a greater depth and breadth of insights into a larger variety of areas of the lifecycle that a PMO follows. I have no doubt that this book will earn its place on my desk, along side my other books. I highly recommend that you add this book to your knowledge base.

Stay away and save your money
I purchased this book after viewing a webinar by the author and now wish I hadn't. The text is poorly written with numerous grammatical errors. I've repeatedly had to re-read passages to understand what the author is trying to say. If you're looking for a business style of writing that offers clarity into the topic you'll want to look elsewhere. Finally, the table of contents and some of the graphics are poorly executed in the Kindle edition that only amplify my frustrations with the text. I read the first 3 or 4 chapters of the book before finally giving up and putting it aside.
