Well constructed, attractively priced boom stand
Not much to say about this simple product. It is well made, does the intended job perfectly and is very reasonably priced. If you're planning on taking this boom on location gigs, hire a young assistant with a strong back... the cast metal base is heavy and unscrewing the upright column and heavy counter-weighted boom arm takes a minute or two. However, this baby's is really at home in a recording studio (project or professional) and you'll feel a lot more confident dangling a $2000.00 microphone off of this beast than any of those "add on boom arm/stand combos". No more scary "wobbles" and putting sandbags (or a spare amp) on the base! The casters on the On Stage SMS7650 Hex-Base Studio Boom install quickly (wrench included) roll nicely and having the ability to use just one section of the two piece 82" boom (two sections screw together to make the long boom) allows you to have a more modest 42" reach... perfect for drum overheads in a smaller studio. The fit and finish (black paint) is quite acceptable. These are a good value, overall and I've purchased three of them without experiencing any defects or problems.

and the adjustments seem to work pretty well. The counterbalance on the boom is quite ...
Slightly cheesy, but what do you expect for this low price. It's very heavy, and the adjustments seem to work pretty well. The counterbalance on the boom is quite heavy. The paint job on the base smacks slightly of cheap Chinese stuff, but only when you look closely. It's wonderful to finally have something that safely holds my $2000 condenser microphone. Looks impressive too, and can reach out over a long long distance. I've got it in my bedroom studio and have noticed no bad chemical odor's except from the wheels. They stink a little bit so I took them off. I'm satisfied

Great Boom, but no Bass (pun intended)
The seller shipped the boom without the hex stand. Guess I'll just have someone hold it up during sessions?

Great stand and GREAT value
Wow, this is really good quality for considerably cheaper than I'd expect. I have some other boom mic stands from On Stage. They are OK but nothing compared to this horse. The base is quite heavy. Be SURE not to drop it anything valuable like a wood floor or your foot or anything. THe base is going to win. Clamps are solid. THe angle clutch is toothed, so once set that's it. The boom comes in two pieces so if you don't need the full length, just use one of the two halves. Very pleased. If I need anything like this again, I'll purchase another one.

Packing was horrible.
The box arrived damaged and I am missing a piece.

If you want a stand that is not going to accidently tip over this is it!
I have a small home studio for guitar & vocal recording and initially made the novice mistake of purchasing a cheap boom stand, only to find my newly purchased condenser mic tipping it over even with the boom barely extended. This stand is the bomb and the 7 lb counter weight easily stabilizes the heavy condenser mic weight with the boom fully extended. I have not used the boom extender as it's not need for my setup. In my setup the stand sits "mid-wall" right up against the wall and since the boom is almost fully extended I can quickly swing it out 180 degrees in to position without the counter weight hitting the wall and when not in use swing the boom up parallel to the wall and out of the way and not taking up floor space. Yes, it's pricey but solid as a rock so for me was worth the extra $$. As others have pointed out, if you're a traveling performer then this stand would be a bit much to lug around.

As Advertised and More
First, let me say that in my case the item was shipped by American Musical Supply. It was not only shipped the same day I ordered it, but it arrived unscathed before the actual expected arrival date. Excellent service from American Musical. As to the item, I am completely impressed. I knew it was "heavy" but until you drag it through your door you don't really realize how sturdy this thing is. I have several valuable mics for my home studio, and the construction and design of this item is professional from the ground up. Well worth the money. Two thumbs up to the manufacturer and shipper.

Very nice!
Wow! This stand is built like a tank and is well worth the money. The package was damaged in shipping but did not damage the product. It is heavy but not too much not to be able to carry up stairs by one person.
