Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Vol. 4
M**N
A bit more serious than the first three volumes.
This is the 4th volume of the series, which sees the introduction of Ilulu ( or Iruru if you follow the Japanese strictly ) as an example of a victim of a broken home - also a very unpredictable dragon. The story arc is a good bit darker and more serious than the first three volumes, with less an emphasis on comedic elements. Parts of this volume were used for episodes in the Anime earlier this year, but the animators wisely left Ilulu out. Having a more serious tone works well with these character and shows the author's ability to reach out for more emotion than he normally does.

Perhaps the best volume of the series to date
While the entire series is great, this one is easily my favorite because it shows Tohru's love for Kobayashi is genuine and, more importantly, injuring Miss Kobayashi is a REALLY, REALLY bad idea.

probably
I probably enjoyed this vol. more then the other ones so far, because they introduce a new character.

This manga continues to be one of my favorite series, and this volume doesn't disappoint
This manga continues to be one of my favorite series, and this volume doesn't disappoint. There's a lot of comedy inside that will either leave you laughing or as little as a wry grin. Definitely worth the money to get your hands on the volume.

As if Tohru weren't enough, now there's Ilulu
At the conclusion of the previous volume, a new dragon made an appearance. Her name is Ilulu and her story is the bulk of this volume. She starts out wanting to destroy the city. After Tohru, aided by Miss Kobayashi and Elma, stops this, Ilulu tries to figure out the Kobayashi/Tohru relationship. She gives Miss Kobayashi a bit of anatomy not normally associated with females and what follows is a really bizarre and discomforting day, especially when Tohru finds out and wants to take advantage of the situation. We get a story of their first meeting and learn when inebriated, Miss Kobayashi can say things that might have made Tohru think Miss K is romantically interested in her (I don't rule out Miss Kobayashi being deeply closeted). We also find out that Tohru would like to have a child with Miss Kobayashi. Meanwhile, their own kind of child Kanna has Parents' Day at school but Miss Kobayashi has to work that day. Useful tip: you may want to play "Cat's in the Cradle" while reading this chapter. All in all, it's another fine volume, although a bit more sexually charged than the previous ones.

Things are getting interesting. Miss Kobayashi has quite the female harem...
I'm still glad I stuck it out & kept reading this manga. At 1st I wasn't all that enthused about it, but like many other manga, it finally found it's rhythm after the 1st/2nd volume. I wonder how many other new "main" characters are going to be introduced throughout the series. Regardless, I'm enjoying this. Art, rough, yet it fits the story. Dialogue, a little over-the-top but decent overall. Characters, likeable, endearing, & adorable.

And thats when dragons...become...good friends.... enter the antiKanna!
So often you come to an engaging story with lovable characters and want more - and get told "read the manga!!" I loved the anime streamed on Crunchyroll and thought it came to a very sweet ending. Decided to see how the manga differed, got volumes 1 to 3, and found not only a different story order but characters and a cliffhanger not related to the anime at all!Volume 4 introduces another dragon. Young, Chaos orientated, and determined to destroy humanity, and Tohru for associating with humans. How the problem is resolved is testament to Miss Kobayashi's development and deepening understanding of dragon psychology. This series gets better and better and come next month I am definitely getting volume 5. for my dragon fix.The characters are engaging and develop with the story...Elma in particular is maturing in a fine way.
