It's actually really fun once you get past the annoying first act.
Fun to play but it feel so inferior to Dynasty Warriors 8 in almost everything especially the gameplay. There are times when enemy can get on your nerves and your horse control is just so much more wonky and unrefined compared to DW8. If you enjoy these games I recommend buying it cheap or just get DW8XL which is A LOT better and has more value for your buck. Also protip this game has enemy officers that can one shot you with their musou attacks so save often especially before a famous officer fight or a level final boss fight to spare yourself the trouble of having to start the level all over again after putting so much effort into it.

Great
Great game, since dynasty warriors 5 I've only played 8 and this one, and I'm hooked, I already pre-order samurai warriors 4 so I'm very pleased with latest Tecmo-Koei's games. The strongest feature on Orochi 3 Ultimate is its huge roaster of playable characters not only by combining the 2 warriors series but characters from other games of the former separate companies (tecmo and koei, and one form namco from some reason). The gameplay despite of what most people think has some dept to it; Is true that the ''easy'' nature of the game may let you beat it without using some of the intricate mechanics, but those who are interested in them may have a blast canceling moves, connecting long hit combos, creating the best character combination and weapons to name a few.Graphically it wont tax high your bran new ps4 or even ps3, but that's does not make it ugly by any means, as a matter of fact it runs at 60fps and 1080p so it looks astounding even with its old engine and character models, specially when the screen is filled whit enemies.the music department is good to great but since the action is so frenetic you will rarely have a chance to actually listen to it, although more often than not, when things settle for a moment or two you might realize that it has some great pieces even if it's remixed form other warriors games. The sound is ..good, I mean its repetitive due the nature of the action but it rarely if ever annoys despite of that fact, so kudos. In conclusion it has a great value, easy to get in to and fun.

Gauntlet mode. That is all.
I was hesitant to buy this game since I had already played it twice before. I was also annoyed since I played it first on the xbox 360 so I couldn't carry over my save data to this game. (I ended up getting a ps4 instead of an xbox one mainly because ps4 seems more commited to the various warriors games) I wasn't sure I wanted to pay full price for a game I already beat once and sorta beat again on the wii version. At first it was ok. I liked the new characters and the new story expansion but still I wasn't sure if I was getting bang for my back. The promotion system is pretty cool. Ultra leveling with the promotion system seemed pretty cool but hardly necessary. But then I played gauntlet mode and the game got real. That was when I was like "60 dollars well spent." You assemble a team of five. Your best five if you know what's good for you and go out fighting hordes of enemies for materials that you can use to craft ultimate weapons that put the mystic weapons you can unlock in story mode to shame. I remember having a throw down with Zhao Yun. He was killing dudes by the score and he was doing so he was constantly leveling and he kept busting out musous and burying fools. It was pretty exciting and in my head I could imagine some sort of old school tent revival going on with Zhang Jiao capering about shouting his goofy preacher's phrases. "Join us my brothers. Join the gauntlet beat down." I don't know, my mind goes to weird places sometimes. Anyway, if you used to play dynasty warriors and gave it up because it got old then give this one a try if only for gauntlet mode. You might enjoy the wild anarchy and beatdowns. Too bad it's not multiplayer. That would rule. Oh well. Still, good game.P.s. Slightly dissappointed in the look of the ultimate "X" weapons. It's just the characters 4 star weapons with better stats. The mystic weapons look so much cooler but thems the breaks.

The Mother of All Hack-and-Slash
Probably my favorite of the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors/Orochi games. Typical hack-and-slash action and character progression, with a learning curve that is especially kind to newbies. Harder levels can get slightly annoying (particular if graphics start to sputter during racking up of body counts) but are not that bad once you have leveled your character(s) and have gotten a command of their special moves. Things can get repetitive as in any of these Koei titles, but some part of you likes that if you are drawn to this series anyway. Great assortment of characters from the various Koei series once you unlock enough of them. The story lines are as ridiculous as ever, and the soundtrack is gratingly awful, so you might want to turn off Music in the options menu or incur the wrath of your neighbors/roommates/spouse.

Paint by numbers
It is meh, but you already knew that.Look I love the DW series and I own pretty much every version worth owning. This game pisses me off with a few old issues that haven't gone away.I always start DW games on easy to build up my char and get better weapons. This is the first game I've ever suffered repeat mission failures on the 2nd stage. I kill all the officers and my commander gets taken out by peon trash..... Another mission the guy on the far end of the map dies in the first minute and on foot I was only 1/2 way there.I know I am playing at non peak hours but to date I haven't seen a single multi player game setup. I suspect that it is to avoid frustration of a lvl 1 guy joining for a carry and dying to waste all time and progress. In closing reviews for these types of games are pointless. You already know what your in for and have already made the decision to buy it or avoid it.I'm also sick of them dicing old costumes back to me.
