Excellent Guide for Beginners or Average Users
There are a number of guidebooks available on Amazon designed to teach beginners how to set up their own website (usually a WordPress site). Sadly, many of them do little more than give people instructions on signing up for web hosting (usually through a site affiliated with the author) and installing WordPress. At that point, would-be site owners may have the barest shell of a site in place, but they'll need another guidebook (or more) to make it appear and function like a typical website.Fortunately, in "How to Create a Website Using WordPress," Brian Patrick provides beginners with an actual comprehensive, easy-to understand guidebook that will actually explain most of the common features of WordPress and give them enough information to enable them to create a decent looking website with a reasonable amount of "bells and whistles." And, although it's geared toward absolute beginners, more experienced WordPress users should be able to get some valuable information from the book as well.Patrick begins with the basics, explaining domains and web hosting. However, he doesn't just jump into a sales pitch for one particular hosting service. Instead, he gives some pointers on how to choose an effective domain name (including explaining the difference between using an SEO optimized domain and a branded domain). He also gives readers advice on things to look for in choosing a hosting service and some free alternatives like WordPress.com instead of standard web hosting. Similarly, when explaining how to install WordPress, he doesn't just assume readers will have a web host that offers one-step installation; he also shows them how to download and install directly from WordPress' website.Patrick then explains the fundamental elements of WordPress: themes, plugins, widgets, pages, and posts. He explains what to look for in a theme and provides links to several popular websites that offer premium themes. He similarly discusses a few key plugins and how to use them and shows readers how to find other plugins. Then, he gives some advice on actually setting up the website, including creating menus, pages, and posts.Frankly, although this is good information and more comprehensive than what's available from most of the other guidebooks I've read, a true beginner probably wouldn't be able to get very far in setting up his website based solely on the information contained in this book's 76 pages. However, Patrick provides readers with an extremely valuable added bonus that will provide the information most readers will need. There's a link contained in Patrick's book that gives readers access to his own website where readers can watch a series of 23 videos (in his book, Patrick claims there's 40 videos available, but there are currently only 23) that explain the nuts and bolts of WordPress in detail, from explaining the dashboard options to creating, editing, and formatting posts, to adding pictures, audio, and video to the site. Most of these videos are three to five minutes long and show viewers actual WordPress screens and menus and exactly what to click on. The videos are easy to understand and follow and show lots of examples of the results viewers will get when they select various options. It will probably take viewers about 1-2 hours to go through the videos, and, of course, they can replay the videos whenever needed.Admittedly, Patrick himself did not create these videos (although the language in his book and Amazon page description blurs this distinction a bit). Instead, they were created by and are available to anyone from a website called WP101.com ... for a price. Anyone going through the WP101 website will pay a minimum of $19 to get access to these videos, considerably more than the full cost of Patrick's book when it's not discounted. In my view, getting these comprehensive and informative videos along with the book more than justifies buying the book.Brian Patrick's book (with the accompanying videos) is the most comprehensive yet easy-to-follow WordPress guide for beginners and average users that I've seen on Amazon. Absolute beginners should be able to create a good looking site with reasonable functionality within a few hours, while more experienced readers will probably find some information that will help them improve the look and operation of a site. Although most readers will probably still want to do some additional research, especially to look at the various options available for themes and plugins, before creating their site, Patrick's book could well be the most valuable single reference source they can find.

A very informative 1st book on Wordpress
How to Create a Website Using Wordpress: The Beginner's Blueprint to Creating a Website or Blog in Less Than 60 Minutes by Brian Patrick is a book chocked full of valuable information for the person wanting to learn WordPress. Wordpress is the industry's go to program for building websites and blogs because it requires no knowledge of coding or programming to use. This book provides the reader with everything he or she needs to know to build their first website or blog and have it up and running very quickly. Brian Patrick makes good on all he promises except for the promise of providing his readers instant, free access to over 40 professionally recorded video tutorial. You will not be able to access those videos because all the embedded links that point back to the author's website, which is where you have to go to access the video tutorials do not work. I checked them again and again over a period of a couple of days to make sure it wasn't a temporary issue but the problem persisted. I tried running a search for his site and came up empty. That would be a big disappointment for anyone who downloaded this book who was a visual learner. Still this book is worth the read for it step by step instruction and for the links (which do work) to Wordpress resources. Check it out on Amazon.

In the book you will find a blueprint for each and every step along the way.Now as if that weren't enough value, Brian steps up and gives away a premium that out strips the price of the book by many times over. In the book you will find an invite to a special section of Brian's website that gives away free, over 40 video tutorials on every part of setting up the website and using the back end program that builds the website's look and feel, called WordPress. good course for beginners
This is a good, simple course for beginners. Not a lot of details in the book, but I guess the video tutorials take care of that.

Good read
I was expecting something more, like advanced features, but it is a good book for begginers. Very clear and didactic.
