Hello Ben,You need to prepare the extension hose, then link the product to your air pump and it is ready to use.

Q: Can you sanitize this with boiling? I want to put in my terrarium.

I don't know if you can boil it or not. I put some aquarium water in a bowl and soaked mine overnight. Then, brushed it good and rinsed with more aquarium water. I put it in the tank and tested the water and didn't find any contamination. I love the details on this tree.
