Great projector! We bought it for outdoor movies
Great projector! We bought it for outdoor movies. Have decided to also use it in the house between times since it’s such a good picture and so bright.Update after 3 years. Projector has been great. We have been using it in our living room instead of a tv. Projects on a beige wall and the colors are still great. Have a Roku and Apple TV hooked to it. Will not go back to a tv. We have a 12 foot diagonal picture on the wall. Brings the theater in to our living room.

Pricy, but did the job!
Purchased this to throw on an inflatable screen with 173" viewable area. It is bright enough to start the movie just at sunset before it is completely dark. The picture is crisp and clear. I started with a less expensive model, but it could not fill the viewable area and appeared faded and blurred in comparison. I am quite happy with this projector.

So so bright and very lightweight
This thing was unbelievably bright. I mean wow. I was very impressed at how I could watch in a daylit room. I did however return it because of the black colors. It seemed that when something should be a shadow on someone's face for example the whole side of the face would just be black. Its very easy to use and has great inputs and an audio out which was nice. I upgraded to the epson 5040ub which I will review. If you can afford the extra grand you'll definitely see why you spent it. By far the best projector I've owned in that price range. This one would be great for outdoor events because its so light and portable. I wish I could have kept both but went with the upgrade. This does deserve 4 starts and I'm sure you'll be pleased with it.

This is the perfect overall projector.
This is the perfect overall projector! If you’re looking for a projector to work in the light as well as a dedicated theater room projector ..,it’s a no brainer. Maybe I’m being a little over excited because it’s my first projector but this projector is great. It was more than expected. I projected it on a big vaulted ceiling wall in my living room while watching the game on my 55 inch led tv and let’s just say I ended up watching the game on my projector😂

Recurring Problems with Losing Sound while Changing Stations
We bought the unit based on the reviews and the high lumens since we wanted to use it inside during the daytime.First, the picture was excellent and very detailed. Even in a well-lit room, the picture was clear and detailed. The unit ran hot but it was expected based on the fact it was a projector with three lights. The problem we had, and the reason for only 2 stars, was when we changed the channels, we lost the sound. In order to get the sound back again, we had to turn-off the projector and turn it back on. If you stayed on one station, the audio was not a problem. Since the TV in the other room had audio, we knew the problem was not with the cable. I called Epson several times to fix the problem until finally they agreed to send another unit. Unfortunately, the "new" unit had the same problems and we decided to return both units since I was returning to Afghanistan.Truly disappointed.

Bright but not bright enough
The holy grail of projectors is a light cannon that can closely resemble an average LCD TV for living room use. This Epson unfortunately falls short.I've been using projectors for over 10 years in both living room settings and a dedicated theater. I've used multiple Epson's over the years and have been very happy with them. I currently use the Epson Home Cinema 5040UB in my theater.MY SETUP:-My room has many windows and is very bright.-Dalite High Power 90" screen with 2.8 gain. This is an extremely high gain screen which means it reflects light in a narrow focus back towards the projector area.-Distance from projector to screen = 13'. Projector located 3 feet to the left of the seating position.-This setup should maximize the brightness for the prime seating position at the cost of a darker image the farther you are away from the projector.-The following observations are viewing the image almost directly in line with the projector which allows for the maximum image brightness. Note that if you use a lower gain screen or are not in the prime viewing position, the image will look substantially darker.SETTINGS-Not a huge difference in all the color modes but you will want to use Dynamic or Bright Cinema for a bright room.-The default brightness setting of 50 is way too low. All dark scenes look unacceptably washed out. You should immediately increase your brightness to >80 as there is an immense difference. (Note that you will need to change the brightness separately for each color mode).-The other settings (contrast, color sat, etc) don't make any difference in bright rooms.FANOn normal setting, the fan is very loud - unacceptably loud for home use IMO. On Eco, the fan noise is minimal and non-obtrusive. The following observations are in Eco fan mode. If you choose to run in Normal mode, you will notice a moderate increase in brightness but not enough to turn washed-out images into non-washed-out images.IMAGE OBSERVATIONS (Dynamic setting, Eco mode, Brightness 90):If you have any direct sunlight on the screen, you have no chance of seeing any dark scenes. Always-bright content like live football is acceptable. In a very bright, daylit room without direct sunlight:-Bright scenes look acceptably good but without any pop. Dark scenes look unacceptably washed out with loss of detail. In a medium bright room in the early morning with lower amount of daylight.-Bright scenes look good with a decent amount of pop. Dark scenes are washed out but acceptable. In a darker room, you are fine viewing almost any content.REMOTEExcellent remote with many dedicated buttons in a compact form.OTHER NOTES-No lens shift which is a major, major drawback. You will need to rely on keystoning which I hate because it is difficult if not impossible to get a squared image.-The native resolution is 1920x1200. It was obviously originally designed to be hooked up to a computer.CONCLUSIONWhether this projector is bright enough depends totally on your room, your screen, and what you will be watching. Make sure you increase the brightness to at least 80 before making any judgments. If all you watch is extremely bright content like live football, you will likely be happy even in a very bright room.If you watch any TV/movies, dark scenes will look unacceptable unless your room is medium dark (no direct sunlight on any walls, minimal windows).Do not even consider this projector in a very dark room like a dedicated theater or a make-shift theater (covered windows) because of the major drawbacks of no lens shift and non-standard native resolution. There are plenty of true home theater projectors that are much better in the same price range.

Perfect for dark and bright rooms
This projector is incredible. The picture quality is amazing. The colors are amazing. I use it in my living room. During the day with the brightness and contrast both at 50% the picture is plenty bright enough. The quick corner feature makes it super easy to fit the picture perfectly on the screen. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a large screen but doesn't have the perfect dark home theater room for it.
