Q: will this work for a oil based enamel (rustoleum) with a Isocyanate-free formula hardner ? 60923 filters do not work.

Yes. The 3M 6001 filters are used mainly to protect against solvents, such as those in oil-based paints. Others would include paint thinner, lacquer thinner, turpentine and fuel vapors. Also absorbs bad smells. Ideal for non-urethane spray painting.

Q: How long would these filters typically last if used for spray painting?are they rated by hours of use or longer?

According to 3M these filter cartridges have a shelf life of five years from the date of manufacturing. Once opened and put into use they should be replaced after 6 months. Furthermore, if you detect the contaminant by taste of smell you should immediately replace the filter cartridges even if you have not reached the six month limit.

Q: is the clear retainer required with this filter?

The clear retainers are used for securing particulate pre-filters to the cartridges. Whether you need them or not is based on the environment in which you are going to be working. I would contact 3M technical support for assistance or visit their website.
