Johnson Hardware 1060 Soft Close Hanger - USA Made, , SOFT CLOSE STANDARD

Bought 2 of these for soft open and soft close for my bathroom door that I converted to a pocket door. They more than doubled the cost of the hardware, but after installing the door they proved worth the expense. They work using a spring and slow closing piston. Follow the instructions closely or you will break the closer. There is a plastic (likely nylon) part that catches on the stop attached to the frame. The number of plastic parts concern me for its longevity. I am hoping the parts most affected by impact from use are strong enough to withstand years of use. I am also concerned about the hollow core door. It appears to be designed to work with real solid wood (not solid core) doors. The Masonite door I have it installed on is MDF on the top where the hanger bracket attaches to the door. If that part fails it will take some creative carpentry to repair or some expense for a solid wood door. The hardware appears to be well capable of handling a heavy solid door. Each kit I received came with a ball bearing roller with closers, zinc plated stop bracket, cadmium plated door bracket, 2 zinc plated pan head screws around #12, an adjusting wrench, and instructions. You will need the wrench to adjust the height. If you install for soft open you will need access to the pocket end of the track to install AND adjust the open position stop. Be mindful of that if your door is already installed and covered or before you cover the pocket area. The instructions are available from LE Johnson website and make this fact very clear. Overall, good quality, easy installation, works great, highly recommended.

This product works great. I bought one to see how it worked and then bought another one for our second sliding door. I installed a motion detector switch in our laundry room that I really like but its right next to the entrance. When you walk by or the dog walks by the light comes on if the door is even a little bit open. I couldn't get my wife and kids to keep the door completely closed as you have to be careful to make sure it doesn't bounce back when closing. This fixed that. It doesn't take long to learn how to apply the right amount of force that will make the door get close enough for the automatic closer to engage and finish the job. The force doesn't have to be exact, just close enough to engage the closer. A warning. The track on the sliding door has to be the right size to fit the rollers on the latch. Mine were too small so I had to buy the door track and hardware. Since the track runs up inside the wall when opened you have to figure out a way to get it out and get the other one in if your track has to be changed. You can always tear out the wall but that requires a lot of work. I built a tool that pivoted on a vertical board and strapped an electric screwdriver to the end that would fit up inside the wall to remove and reinstall the screws that hold the track. It worked great but you have to be a little creative about how to build the tool. It’s now June 2021 and everything still works great I added a mudroom to our house that had a sliding door and of course purchase this product again. However this time I installed it before the door was installed so everything was much easier.

I last second decided I wanted soft close AND soft open on our door. So I purchased this one from Amazon. I have one from Home Depot and one from Amazon. The package from Amazon was different kind of thrown in the box with box stuffing, however everything looked the same and all parts were there. Home Depot had everything nicely set in plastic, but product was the same. Just in case I installed the home depot one for the soft open. So it’s behind the walls. The Amazon one I installed as the soft close. That way it is accessible just in case. Both products work the same. Super smooth. I am very happy with the product. Amazon shipped next day which was perfect and accommodating. Arrived on time. Super easy to install. Would recommend.

This is the second Johnson Pocket Door system that I have installed. The installation is straightforward and took several hours (once the wall was opened and the studs were removed). The track and glides are very smooth and there are no issues with supporting a solid wood slab door. I bought the Johnson soft-close mechanism and it works very well. Johnson hardware is definitely worth the money and a great value.

These work quite well with the Johnson door pocket kit. Easy to install and adjust. I’d give it 5 stars but there are better and far more expensive kits for Hafela.

I used two of these for double pocket doors with glass. Using two of them allows it to be soft close and open. So now kids (or adults) can slam the doors open or close and they land softly and fully open or close. As to durability they are doing great, they've been installed for over 3 years and working as good as the day I installed them.

The cost is by no means low for these soft close attachments, but they are 100% worth it. If you are going to take the time to replace all your pocket door hardware, it would be crazy not to by two of these for soft close both open and close. They would incredibly well, even though they are pricey.

Absolute garbage! The bracket that actuates the soft close mechanism is horrible. The mechanism to adjust position in the track is horrible. The spring clip that engages the soft close mechanism will slip out when you open the door which means the soft close is not reset and you have to dismount the door and remove the mechanism to reset. Waste of money.

It’s awesome at the soft close but if your doors assembled when it draws back into the wall you want a soft close be fore warned that you’ll have to cut some drywall to get to the back of the track. It’s a great system and super soft close it’s truly awesome.!

I love these so much, came with tools to adjust them, everything was easy to install. I wish it was not made with a plastic piece as it may not last forever but quality seems great and slow close slow open is nice. Got 4 and all worked great.

We put 2 of these soft close dampers on one door to have a soft open and close on our new pocket door! Easy to install on new construction. Can be done also on existing doors with a bit more work. They work great and no more door slamming against the frame!

This is an excellent alternative that is easy on your wallet compared to the KN Crowder pocket door kits that have soft close/open mechanisms. I thought I would try out this Johnson one on a remodel that I'm working on, and I'm impressed. Definitely a must for anyone who wants to upgrade their typical old, cheap feeling pocket door without the big price tag. Remember if you want soft close/open you'll need two sets.

The soft close is generally good. I had to buy it because I installed a glass door, I don't want it to break. Installation takes 30 minutes to 2 hours based on how handy you are. In my case, the U-channel where the rollers run was a little too short, so I had to be creative in my adjustment to get it to work. The distance of the soft-close is short, unlike the videos, so the door slows down for the last 1.5 inches. Yet the product is way too expensive. Manufacturer could improve the mechanism, for instance, the stopper could be as wide as the U-Channel, so it gets centered automatically instead of me trying to center it. Also the stopper screws to the U-Channel in a bad way, all that could improve, and the price too.
