Like a personal consultation with a professional makeup artist.
Reading this book, written in a fun, conversational style, is like enjoying an unhurried, 1-on-1 consultation with Patinkin, a sought-after professional makeup artist and beauty consultant. Patinkin has a particular interest in helping all women look beautiful. She completely understands that most of us don’t have the time, money, or interest/expertise to apply a full face of makeup every day. Many of us can’t be bothered to engage in complicated, multi-step routines like contouring and highlighting. And while this book will tell you how to do that and just about anything else beauty-wise, it keeps a consistent focus on Patinkin’s brand of “Lazy Perfection.” With specific and clear instruction, she explains how any woman can choose a few essential products (in the right shade!) and apply them for maximum benefit. Every face and feature shape, skin color, age, and lifestyle is addressed. She dishes insider tips for products, including many that do double-duty, even listing recommendations by name and cost category. She gives the straight scoop on makeup tools and application shortcuts, always focusing on achieving the most impact with the least effort. She addresses common bad beauty habits with frequent and humorous “Just Stop” tips. I am among the laziest when it comes to beauty and Patinkin explains how to make that work.

Excellent resource & fun to read!
This book is super helpful - to the point, fun to read, and offers an incredible amount of information that is actually useful for us regular people. It touches on everything from how to handle aggressive makeup counter salespeople to what all the product buzzwords mean ("AHA," "velvet finish," "serum," etc) to the best way to apply under eye concealer and if/when to consult a dermatologist for help with wrinkles/discoloration/etc. I also really like that there's a massive chart in the back of the book with the author's top picks for specific products in every price range (drug store to Neiman Marcus). Most of all, I appreciate that this book doesn't talk down to the reader and encourages you to find your own style and run with it. Makeup should be fun and make you feel good - it should't be scary or cause anxiety. I highly recommend this book for anyone, from novice to Sephora VIB Rouge member, who wants straight talk about how to look their best while staying true to their budget and style.

Simple guide, best for the makeup-anxious or over-done
Maybe a little simple, but that is the intention. Great for women trying to pare down, simplify, or just figure out finally how to make up her face. I always have fun reading beauty guides and glean a few tips here and there. The cover is awfully pretty pink, too.

A Book that ANY woman/mother would love!
I am not normally the kind of person who would ever sit down to READ a book about beauty, but Lazy Perfection is so funny and well written I could not put it down. I think this book may change my life. It answers all the beauty questions I ever wanted to ask. I don't like shopping for make up because I feel like the salespeople are only trying to make a sale and don't really listen to you (or even LOOK at you for that matter). I feel that now armed with the instructions, suggestions and recommendations in this book I can make informed educated decisions and stop wasting money at the make up counter. I think we are going to be seeing a LOT more of Jenny Patinkin in the media...she offers a really refreshing take on modern beauty.

Good for someone who hasn't worn makeup in a long time, but already knows basics
If you don't know anything about makeup, or haven't worn it for maybe a decade, I could see this being a really helpful book. I already wear (some) makeup daily, and this seemed like perfect book to get a few new ideas. Unfortunately, I found it to be a repeat of most other "beginner makeup" books, except that (as some other reviewers have noted) it was really weirdly organized. I also didn't find the makeup suggestions at the end of the book very helpful - she sticks to a few brands, and tends to recommend them again and again, instead of doing the footwork to test different brands and tell us what's best from each.I'd recommend a Bobbi Brown manual over this one for the makeup novice. For someone who already wears makeup and wants ideas, maybe a Robert Jones book. I'll be returning this one.

And poor writing is my pet peeve
Based upon other reviews, I was hoping this might be the one beauty book, among myriad others, that made sense and wasn't a repetition of all those that have come before. I was wrong. Nothing new and nothing of real interest. And poor writing is my pet peeve, and this book has in it spades. In fact, if I had to read "at the end of the day" one more time, I was going to spit! Really? What editor let that slide? And one more thing--the author's product list is incomplete. She makes recommendations throughout the book, but certain ones are left off the list, i.e. tweezers, and products to grow lashes/brows, etc. If you really want to be lazy, don't spend your time reading this book. Just use Google.

Great if you're a beginner and even better if you just don't have time!
Covers whatever shade of skin, hair etc, how to makeup different eye shapes (yes, there are different eye shapes), helps sort which face/body shape you are - all round covers YOU!

Wow
This book is a must have!If you love makeup and not sure what to do, this book has every answer and technique you ever wanted to know. For example:Don't use chapsticks that contain camphor or menthol because it sucks the moisture out of your lips. That's why they're addictive.Beige nude ..great for pale lips and fair complexion.Pink nude.. for pale or rosy lips and medium complexion.Peach lip colors are flattering on everyone.Baby rose lip shades give a youthful poutiness to lips and makes them look fresh and healthy. The next chapter explains about romantic blush.Pop of passion.I love, love , love this fantastic book!
