Excellent small, value sub
I bought this mini sub when I was living in my apartment because I’m a big movie person, but didn’t want to piss off the neighbors with a larger, true HT sub (plus I was on a tight budget), and was very pleasantly surprised. It’s only an 8” driver, so you can’t compare it to a 12” or bigger driver, that’s not realistic, but it’s fantastic for what it is. This thing rumbles and it has a nice tactile punch to it. I never turned the gain knob up past 5/10. I would absolutely recommend this sub for anyone with SPL (volume) limitations, neighbors, or financial limitations. At 8” it just physically can’t get down ultra low or provide the fullness a bigger driver can, but man does it try, and if you’ve never experienced anything bigger, you won’t be missing anything. I would be very interested to listen to the 10” version, the NS-SW100. Overall, I was thrilled with it for the size and price point at the time when I built my budget 5.1 system. It really is a fantastic little sub and I would absolutely purchase it again. If you have a bigger room or want a true HT sub, you’re gonna have to be realistic and go bigger and a lot more expensive. Otherwise, get this thing (or the 10” NS-SW100) and enjoy!

Two subs are better than one
This sub delivers clean tight bass and does so without too much muddy sound. Its hard to beat at this price point. The eight inch woofer may not go down quite as deep and bigger ones, but it sounds really great in my twin sub arrangement with one on the left and one on the right side of my room. This opens up the sound stage quite nicely. I only wish it had the instant on feature. I have to reach down and flip the switch on the back for on and off. oh well.

Great bottom end
Full disclosure; I'm Rebecca's dad, not Rebecca. I ordered the Yamaha sub to replace an aging passive subwoofer. Modern 5.1 systems are set up for an active subwoofer and, frankly, they need one! The Yamaha fit the bill. It was priced right, including a 15' cord to connect back to the receiver & allow the sub to be placed where I want it in the room. The results? Fantastic. 8" doesn't sound like much, but the Yamaha puts out an impressive sound. When I listen to music, it provides that low underpinning of sound that is hard to get from a standard speaker, or from an old fashioned passive subwoofer that simply lacks the volume needed. For movies, it has transformed my sound into a chair-rumbling experience. As soon as the speaker was set up, I gave it a good shakedown test - Star Wars, then Independence Day. The Yamaha delivered the kind of theater experience I've been looking for. Some people have asked if it is loud enough. Absolutely. The subwoofer itself has a volume control, which I leave at full volume; that allows me to control volume through the receiver with the remote. For most movies, keeping the SW channel just above 50% is just right; for a few action movies, such as Independence Day, I had to back it down to about 40% - high enough to feel the rumble, but low enough to hear the dialogue through the center channel. I'm sure there are some better subs out there; just depends on what you think you need. For me, the Yamaha subwoofer is a perfect match. For reference, my system is: a Denon 5.1 receiver, 2 Bose 201 speakers for front channel, and 3 Sony bookshelf speakers for center and rear channels.

Yamaha delivers again!
Yamaha makes great stuff for great prices. I bought this to replace a 12" sub that was just too big. When I first hooked this up I wasn't overwhelmed, but after making some proper tweaks to my amplifer, I was blown away by how good this thing sounds. It has clear and precise bass that is musical. It is powerful but probably won't please hard core bass addicts, although it might. I feel like it does great with hip hop, funk, jazz, rock, and just about anything. Its worth every dollar paid in my humble opinion. Its probably best used in a living room or bedroom situation. I have mine in a 15x15 space and its more than enough at 1/2 volume.

Excellent subwoofer and reasonable price
I just received the Yamaha subwoofer and mated it with my Yamaha RX-4VA receiver. I have also Bose bookshelf speakers and a Yamaha center speaker. The subwoofer does not come with a cable to connect it to the receiver. So need to order one or pick up a cable at Best Buy. Sound is very rich and clear. Volume is adjustable to match the main and center speakers. Sound without the subwoofer is weak but with it on, sound is very rich and full. Set up is simple and takes a few minutes. Highly recommend this subwoofer.

Duas coisas me surpreendem aqui - a yamaha fabricar essas caixas e o chatgpt indicá-las. Sinta-se avisado, não compre.

I enjoy hearing the bass from this unit. It looks good and was easy to install into my home theater system for 5.1 sound. Gives the sound a good low growl and beat. Quality seems very good so far. I have been using it for a few months. Recommended for a system in a smaller room.

The size and output were the welcome, final addition to our cheapo Pioneer HTP-071 amp and now 5.1 setup. Lots of oomph for such a small size unit. I recommend to anyone, with reasonable experience and tech savvy, to revisit their amp's settings in detail and play with that vs the speakers volume output. Only complaint was the connectors could have been more varied instead of just an RCA female as our amp had only regular crimp speaker wire connectors for all including subwoofer - if you're okay with soldering this is not a big deal but finding a good RCA male barrel connector can be tricky or expensive on amazon (which I did after searching for hours and NOT wanting calling all around the city). Inexpensive amazon basics 14 gauge speaker wire and every speaker gets it's equal treatment. Worth the time and effort... at this price point you still need to fuss abit but once set your golden.

great little sub woofer expect what your getting the power isnt going to rock the foundations but it compliments the main speakers greatly epecially because the crossover goes as high as 200hz my 12 inch klpisch goes as high 120. but remember power is everything but it extracts every bit of that 50 watt power to great effect with very tight bass. my polk and klipsch give lots of depth but 2 of these yamahas just give little more tightness to the lfe when called. a word of notice i recommend not putting it more than 4 or it starts making a sound when a subwoofer starts to emit a sound its bad a sub has to blend with the main speakers so that it disappears test it with the movie interstellar at the end when cooper goes in the black hole the bass should be loud and deep.

Bought this on October 30th 2022 and it arrived in the morning on November 2nd 2022. So quick delivery. Purchased while it was marked down 33%. My new found bass is glorious when added to my hobbled together stereo system. Only surprise was Yamaha didn't include an RCA cable to actually hook it up to a receiver. Thankfully I had some extra RCA cables socked away. I have the volume set around 6-7 and it puts out a noticeable punch. Any louder and it overwhelms the main speakers. I mainly listen to BPM and Diplo's Revolution on Sirius/XM streaming through my phone into a Wiim Mini plugged into my receiver. The added bass is next level. I also listen to Hard/Dark Techno from DI.FM and that is something to behold! Thanks Amazon and Yamaha. A very happy customer.
