Hip Hop Family Tree 1983-1985 Gift Box Set

I thoroughly enjoy these books chronicling the early beginnings of Hip Hop. I don't know how much pre-planning and sequencing is done beforehand, but it is beautifully and coherently rendered, even foreshadowing people or events that will come along. I even love the little inside jokes that incorporate snippets of lyrics from iconic songs. What makes it even more amazing is the style of art that Ed Piskor uses. It makes it feel even more retro, more nostalgic. Anyone who loves Hip hop and is curious of its arduous beginnings should pick up the entire series to enjoy and educate themselves.

Ed Piskor is my new comics hero. This is a Crumb - Pekar - Kirby (yeah, I went there) level-find. This book has so much maturity and flow. It's not only a history lesson - these guys were at the vanguard of a musical revolution, operating, in some cases, out of college dorm rooms. KRS One even exchanges tuition to NY School of the Arts for pay for his record - it is also a love letter to comics. Leaf through one. Feel that aged paper. And Piskor can draw.

well packed, cover stiffness and page quality are great.there is also a hard outer cover that we can put in the books.The content is incredible for hiphop lovers.You can purchase, without thinking about page/cover quality and content .

this is a great edition for all the cartoon lovers. the printing, the colours, the paper quality, everything about it is so carefully chosen it makes is a must have in every illustrator of cartoon fan library

Purchased this as a gift and recipient loved it! If you need a cool gift idea for a hip-hop fan, I highly recommend this. The art work is pretty awesome too and the stories really deliver.

First thing to note is the quality. This set is huge! The case itself is strong, thick, board and the books just ooze class with thick paper.The contents are worth this quality. Piskor is doing an immense job on the story of hip-hop - the records that count, the people that matter and the stories behind the music.If you read the 12-part monthly, book four picks up the story and takes it forward.I love this series and this set. If you have any appreciation of hip-hop & rap, you'll love this.
