I wanted something to lock my patio French doors. Since there is no vertical jamb to mount it to I mounted the lock horizontally on the top the door that opens first. I have no problem with the mounting or function of the lock. I now know that it is harder for someone to break into my home through these doors.

This is great I have one door that the alarm doesn't sense, it works great I feel safer with it in place so easy to lach

Was looking for a suitable door lock to keep a toddler from surreptitiously letting himself out of the house and wanted to avoid replacing the original lockset or installing alternatives like surface bolts, chains, etc. that required drilling and mounting their hardware in the pricey fiberglass entry door itself. Travel locks seemed like a logical solution, and while this non-portable FIXED Addalock does require making screw holes in the door jamb, it initially made more sense because--unlike other portable locks which depend on hooking into the regular lock's door jamb strike plate--it could be mounted higher up the door, well beyond the normal toddler's unaided reach.Unfortunately, when mounted according to Rishon Enterprise's supplied instructions, even with a 3.3mm gap between door edge and jamb (over twice the 1.5mm thickness of 2 credit cards, as someone suggested was necessary), the chromed plate cannot be installed as designed without both plate and stored locking pin scraping against outside corner of door edge when closing the door. Opening the door knocks the red handle completely out of stored position when locking pin is again struck by the door edge. There is clearance between door edge and Addalock when the standard 36-inch wide door is fully closed, but not while opening or closing.Subsequent attempts to "tilt" the locking pin 3-4 degrees (estimated) away from the door swing path by inserting and adjusting a thin, tapered shim under the exterior facing edge of the plate failed because no amount of tweaking the angle would enable the door to clear both plate and pin. Continued use would form an unsightly groove and scrapes in the door edge. A better design would use a plate with a slight but sufficient offset to allow the locking pin to remain clear of the door swing while in the stored position, yet maintain the angles necessary for proper locking operation. Even with such a modification, a wider minimum gap is necessary in order to avoid scraping against the plate during normal opening and closing of the door.The screw hole in the jamb is fixable, but am thoroughly displeased with the damage this has done to my door. Returning this Addalock for a refund and will probably consider the First Watch Security 1846 Travel Lock Deadbolt for its keyed lock as a sufficient, 'though less convenient deterrent.
