The Marksman [VHS]

Wesley Snipes, a big orchestral score, countless bloodbags, a warmed over concept, incredibly weak locations and visuals, a script from Romper Room and it's pro-Russia detente to boot. There is nothing in this film to warm up to and plenty to cause retching. Even a fan of mashing pure and simple will toss this after twenty minutes. Inexcusable dreck.

seeing the 4 stars on this I was thinking hellz yeah some good movie footage . WRONG ...I guess every actor needs a paycheck

Bottom Line: A satisfying action movie for Wesley Snipes fans who aren’t looking for anything too heavy and just want to see him go through his paces in a familiar story.To appreciate The Marksman you may have to a) be a Wesley Snipes fan, b) be willing to accept that in this movie he doesn’t demonstrate the art of whoop ass quite as much as usual c) be in the mood for a relaxing-action movie you are only watching to see an actor you like go through their paces.If that doesn’t describe your frame of mind you should wait until it does to watch.In The Marksman, Snipes, as codename Painter, *is* a gifted shooter (though his actual job is not what you may expect) so one or two fights that would usually be drawn out end abruptly -which I found hilarious.The writing leaves a lot to be desired, you literally desire more and more that takes advantage of what Snipes can bring to a character. There are scenes, like the very end, that just should have been…cooler. It takes a while for things to get going but for some reason a lot of that time is spent with characters other than The Marksman *and* without fleshing out the story; so the provocative thriller in there somewhere doesn’t quite make it to the screen.Be that as it may I really enjoyed The Marksman. Snipes manages to give the taciturn hero some presence, there is plenty of the running, shooting and exploding kind of action and Peter Youngblood Hills is solid as determined sidekick Hargreaves.Sometimes you’re not really looking for life-changing art. All you want is a happy tree.

It should have been titled "The Painter"...Otherwise, an okay flick with action and explosions aplenty for arm chair generals to enjoy!

I could not make it through the first minute of this "pseudo-military fiction." You have an F-16 starting up his engine with the Mach meter rolling up... LOL wtf? But it gets better... the supposed F-16 pulls back on his center stick to climb out... wrong again. The F-16 has a right side stick that does not move. Further, the F-16 has a strike load out but is clearly a two-seater D model used for training. A simple 10 minute research session could have uncovered these mysterious facts. Fire your military consultant and stop producing obvious garbage. I don't even know what the story was; it could have been great, but the technical errors were too obnoxious for this viewer.

I very much like 16:9 and 5.1. The surroundsound was very relevant. I like the action and violence. I like the shooting and stabbing. The jets provided some very nice dogfights. Missiles made explosions everywhere. I don't like a steady diet of military movies but I like one occasionally. Since I've been with Prime so long the recommendations are quite good.

Special ops had better equipment in Vietnam never mind the 90's, 5 guys beat an army with tanks ....And this is not a super hero movie. Waste of time

When will the film makers realize that not everyone likes loud noises, crashes, bangs, squeals and no substance? The entire production lacks a story.

A pretty average film with a fairly good amount of action. A reasonable watch if you can buy it cheap.

本作は「活動写真」ではなく「ＴＶドラマ」として製作されている。ゆえに、戦争ものといっても血糊飛び交うような作品ではなく、内容はＣ・ノリスっぽいアクションに仕上がっている。舞台はチェチェンであり、ストーリーだけ見ると真実味があって怖いものだ。ロシアの政治体制がどうなっているのかはわからないが、以前のソ連と比べると「穴」がありそうだ。そうなると怖いのが、本作のようにテロリストによって核施設を乗っ取られることだろう。自爆されたら被害は甚大なものだし、ことによると日本にだって大きな影響が及ぶ。また第三国と核兵器でも作られたら、モスクワなど木端微塵だ。こんな一大事に「ロシアは何も出来ないから」と豪語して（笑）乗り出すアメリカ軍というのも凄い設定だが、要は兵器も作らせず、自爆もさせないために、Ｗ・スナイプス演じるペインターが当地へ送り込まれて、ピンポイント爆撃のための「マーキング」をしてくる話だ。犬のおしっこみたいだが（笑）。チェチェンに入るまでの経緯は「プレデター」並にカッコいいのだが、現地でのバトルアクションは正直ショボい。でも数多の戦争アクションものの中では、健闘している方だと思う。テロリストは、米軍一味を罠にかけて、一度は圧倒的優位に立つ。ここでいくらでも挑発活動が出来ただろうに、唯一捕まらなかったペインターの反撃になすすべもなく、壊滅（笑）。まあ火薬量も多いし、退屈はしません。星は３つです。
