These are good magnifiers for reading. They magnify sufficiently and are wide enough that the entire cell phone width is included. However, a word of warning about magnification. They are advertised as 10X. They are NOT. 10X should mean that they bring objects 10 times closer, thus increasing the diameter 10 times. An eighth inch letter would become over an inch tall. No, no, no. It is not possible to get that much magnification with a 3" hand held lens, even of the finest quality. You need a small thick magnifier, like a jeweler's lens, for that much power. Are the companies "lying"? No, I suspect they are misinterpreting. If you magnify enough as to bring an object a little more than 3 times closer (increase diameter by 3+ fold) you increase the AREA by 10. That's probably what they are saying. But that isn't what 10 x means. So someone looking for a powerful magnifier that really brings objects in close will be disappointed. These are closer to 3X, which is perfect for reading for most people as it gives a useful magnification while retaining a wide field of view. The true 10X magnifiers are going to have one word in the view at a time.
