Q: How do you safely cut a bagel if there is only 1 plate? Other slicers have 2 so...

At BB&B they have small, about 6X8 hard thin plastic cutting mats. I slide one behind a 1" or less thick piece of bread and slice away. That way you have the thin pieces of bread or even a bagel between two "back stops". I hope this makes sense to you.

Q: How do you adjust slice thickness

The slicer has different slice spacing in the vertical rack. The wood backstop board is moved to the required slice thickness. We love this slicer, easy to use and easy to keep clean.
