Thoroughly enjoyed!
Highly recommend this book for both the story and the fact it gives voice to the issues affecting black women in society and the workplace. I feel that any black woman in their 30s would relate to at least one of the many topics touched on in this book and I’ll definitely be moving on to book 2 next to see how the story develops :)

Review
An excellent story showing the wide range of what life is like for black American girls in American society. A range of pertinent questions were discussed and some were left unanswered.

Two
This story starts off with a young black girl facing the trials we know all too well. Jayne Allen did a fantastic job of writing a story with topical issues but not making the issues take away from the story. Everything I read felt real, these issues exist and affect us but they don’t saturate every part of our life all of the time. Black Girls Must Die Exhausted really covered relationships between father and daughter, boyfriend and girlfriend and grandma and granddaughter. These relationships were strong and consistent. They made you want more for the characters. When they bled we did too. Would I recommend this book? Definitely! This book speaks volumes teaching us life lessons as we enter the next stage of life. I really like the way the author managed to provide depth to the characters. We learnt about their childhood and the tribulations that made them who they are today. Did Tabitha (main character) annoy me with her incessant whining and immoral choices? Yes! But that is what made this story so real. I absolutely loved the grandma. Her relationship with her granddaughter melted my heart and the strength in their bond was heartwarming. The mum however seemed like she couldn’t wait to live her life with her new man. I didn’t respect her at all.

This book made me smile
You don't realise how much you needed a a different story until you have read it. Not a romance novel; no, something so much better.

Good, but could have been better
This book started off really well but I found myself losing interest towards the end, there could have been so much more so slightly disappointed.

You won't be disappointed
I don't usually pick up contemporary fiction, but I had to give this one a try due to the title! I'm glad I did because it's full of amazing, supportive female characters. I really related to the characters struggles around fertility, racism and the career issues. Having read hundreds of books to date, I am glad to finally see myself reflected in diverse fiction. I'm looking forward to the next instalment!

Heartwarming and very real
This novel was picked for our online book club, and I'm glad it was chosen. The story touches on a number of very real issues for black people, and more specifically black American women. Without giving away spoilers, it was very eye opening to read the accounts of a black woman who experiences everything from fear over being stopped by the police to how the media and society deem it acceptable for her to wear her hair.I loved the relationship between Tabitha and her grandmother, and felt bittersweet about Tabitha as a 21st century hero, because after all she shouldn't have to still be fighting half of the battles she is.

Thoughtful Read
Really liked this novel and would highly recommend book and author. Third in a series and I am going back to read the first two. Can read as a stand alone.

the most enjoyable story
The older generation of women teach so much to the younger generation. This book really brings forth issues career minded women face that the generations of our mothers & grandmothers never did.Its a great story telling the ups and downs of life, sisterhood, marriage, infidelity, forgiveness and love.I enjoyed it beginning to end . One thing I want to ask the author, “who is Tanner?” Either I missed it or the author edited his character’s intro but still mentions him like we already know him .

Exceptional
It was so relatable as a black woman. The words flowed so smoothly and felt almost like poetry. Such a good read, I'm looking forward to reading the remainder of the trilogy series.

Great read, very relatable
This was a nice break from my typical read. Ms. Gretchen hands down was my favorite character lol. I really enjoyed how a positive point of view was summarized from what some may consider a lifetime of pain. It’s important we don’t forget to get good you have to accept the bad too.
