Q: How long is this once folded down in case?

A little less than 4 feet and weighs about 15 pounds.

Q: Can you take the canopy off if you don’t need it or is it permanently attached?

I don’t believe that the canopy comes off. Also, I returned these chairs since they had a lot of rust on them after it rained.

Q: Are they already assembled?

Yes! They are already assembled and fold pretty flat for storage and transport.

Q: How easy is it to get in and out of the chair? Would an elderly person have difficulty getting in and out?

If you’re in great shape, I’d say it would be easy. But not for an elderly person.
