colorful and fun, leaning more toward fantasy than historical inspiration
These dolls are full-size, taking up most of the page. Most paper dolls made now are about this size, but they might not mix and match well with smaller-size dolls that only take up about half the page. The artist's style is clearly delineated with bright colors, and the characters are given supermodel facial features. I thought it would be useful to contrast these with the Camelot paper dolls by the late, great Tom Tierney. Both are the same size, and both are really nice. Tierney includes 10 characters- this set only includes 5 (Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Morgan, & Merlin). Tierney includes 22 costumes- this set includes about 27. Tierney bases his costumes on actual historical garments ranging from the years 500 to 1350, and he offers details on the setting of the legend and the clothing portrayed. This set offers no explanation and leans more toward fantasy inspiration, especially when it comes to Morgan Le Fay, who dresses like she's performing in Vegas rather than living in the Dark Ages. Here's what's included for each character: ARTHUR gets a a basic brown woolen tunic with brass studs at the edges/ fantastic plate mail armor embellished with rearing griffins & a red cape/ a red, fur-edged cape & boots with thistle embroidery and a gilded, jewelled sword/ a short brown cloak with fur trim and fingerless red gloves/ a handsome set of chainmail with studded collar and belt/ a blue tunic with white cross and edging/ a light blue tunic under gold-white armor and a red-and-gold cape GUINEVERE gets pale turquoise blouses edged with puffed & frilled dark blue/ a gold gown with thistle embroidery over a gold & orange chevron underskirt/ what appears to be a lionskin (!) over a pretty fantastical layered gown inspired by branches/ a purple gown with swirling embroidery and a jewelled golden belt/ a white gown with multicolored floral embroidery & orange lining/ a gold & turquoise gown with a mix of swirls and dots/ a pink gown printed with fleur-de-lys under a light pink cape embroidered and set with jewels LANCELOT gets a tunic divided between green panels & rearing griffin heraldry/ paneled leather armor over a chainmail shirt and a plain brown skirt/ beautifully chased armor with floral patterns, a short chainmail skirt, and a deep blue cape MORGAN gets a purple tunic held at the waist with a golden belt with flower buckle/ a vivid blue & red gown with a swirling red shawl/ a very bright gold-edged royal blue cloak over a blue and white polka-dot dress/ some sort of swirly belly dancer outfit with long, sheer, purple sleeves/ a sort of Poison-Ivy-meets-melting-wicked-witch dress/ a vivid purple, red, & gold blouse with a short purple cape and a little hennin with purple veil/ a black gown pulled up at the hips Renaissance-style with a pieced red bustier and sheer black cape MERLIN gets a padded cream tunic with gold leaf embroidery/ a fur-lined light blue robe with scrolling embroidery/ an embroidered gold cloak and striped gold belt over a jag-edged white and gold gown A last couple notes. The inside covers of the book feature a throne room with seats for Arthur and Guinevere, which is kind of a fun touch. And I'm putting my money on Eileen Rudisill Miller being a redhead since both of the women here get red hair, while none of the men do.

Homeschoolers, and parents who want to add a dimension to characters making it easier for kids to ‘ keep track of’ while you are reading, telling or acting out the play , this is for you. Naturally the kids are intrigued by the costumes and characters . Now do your part and make Shakespeare’s plays come alive through expression and just plain fun!
