I want to use this device for wifi access for security system at unoccupied home. Can it remain plugged & work properly? Does it need onsite attention

That is how I used it for about 2 months. No onsite attention needed although I gave it plenty. Anything you need to do can be done from the app.

how would it work with my own 128 gb sim card?

Without problem. Just insert o to slot and choose Sim 1 or 2 from the list in the menu

Will this work in a Mobile home for traveling ? Off the grid?

It worked well at our cabin in Coeur d’Alene where we get no reception. It was very easy to use too.

pay as you go feature? is there actually one, because I can't seem to find it

You can access the pay as you go feature on the website, or more conveniently on the GlocalMe app. The app has your info in real time, so when you need data you can add more easily. I use my debit card and just purchase data packages right on the app and they load instantly.
