Painting Acrylic Landscapes the Easy Way: Brush with Acrylics 2

I personally think this is Terry Harrison's best book. I believe that I own all of Terry's books, purchased from Amazon and his brushes. I also have purchased his own brand of watercolor paints, greens and shadow. I teach both watercolor and acrylic painting, shying away from oils where possible.I have been pleased and excited with every purchase as well as the speed in shipment.I have been a painting instructor for over 30 years and when I decide to 'branch out' to teaching a different medium I don't want to 're-invent the wheel'. I liked what I saw in his books, tried it with my other brushes and saw nothing 'new' in the finished practice pieces. I saw just what I had been able to do before seeing Terry's books....alright work but not the fresh technique I enjoyed seeing in the books.When the supplies came to my shop I got excited all over again because the 'strange haired' brushes did exactly as he demonstrated and are a joy to use. I use the brushes for both my watercolor painting and my acrylic paintings just making certain that I keep the acrylic cleaned out of the bristles continually to prevent any buildup.There are 127 pages filled with wonderful landscape paintings as well as many different kinds of structure, waterfront scenes, how to add life to paintings and it is filled with step by step photos of how to use his brushes and he explains why the brush was made like it is. An example would be the "Golden Leaf" brush. He writes:"When this brush is new, dip it in hot water so that the hair curls, as this will keep the hairs separate, making the brush ideal for creating texture. As it's name suggests, it is perfectly suited for stippling foliage in landscapes......" etc.Terry also goes into so much more detail such as how to use texture paste,glaze medium, painting knives and so much more.If you will be using the book with different brushes you will still get a lot of great ideas and instructions covering a wide range of topics. Keep your brushes wet.

The book had good photos of materials used and their uses , as wells step by step demonstrations on the creations of a painting.

The book is pretty and I am enjoying learning some of the techniques that Mr. Harrison uses so aptly. However, I was a little disappointed in that there actually were very few detailed painting instructions. Some of the prettiest pictures he has done had no instructions. But, all in all, a nicely presented book. I will be purchasing another of his books in order to broaden my practice arena. I would definitely recommend this book!

Book was as described excellent service

This book just wasn't my style. The first 2/3 of the book are large pictures of his brushes, and a simple technique you can do with them. I already had the brushes, so sure I can follow along. However all his acrylic paintings look EXACTLY like his watercolor paintings from his other books. Worse yet, even the TECHNIQUES are the same.Why? Because he gets that Golden Leaf brush and just hammers it into the canvas with different colors for most of his works. So you get this exploded bristle brush look, instead of some attractive acrylic painting. You're much better off getting a Dorothy Dent or Jerry Yarnell book (or video) unless you want to produce watercolor-look-alike works. Plus you need to buy all his brushes, which is pretty much mandatory considering that's all he uses for the entire book, and will cost you $60 or more.If you enjoy some abstract acrylics, this may be more to your liking.

I bought the book mainly because I love the way Terry Harrison does reflections and light. He pays a lot of attention to architectural details in his paintings, which I`m generally not so interested in, but still to me the book has much to offer. The instructions are easy to follow. For the more complex paintings in here some drawing experience is definitely an advantage. Having the brush set helps a lot. Some might think of that as a minus, but I had recently started "mutilating" brushes to get these results. His are ready to go and perform as promised, which is less expensive in the long run.

Terry Harrison is a great painter and makes it easy for you to start becoming a great painter as well. His books are very helpful. I have three books from him, all of them being acrylic painting books. I read one of his books as a beginner and it helped me improve my painting skills very quickly. I was able to recreate some of his paintings within a short time of painting. I highly recommend this book.

I love to paint, and this is as good or better than taking a class (I do that too). Lots of hints and suggestions, not so interested in purchasing Mr. Harrison's personal brand of brushes and paints. But his instruction is great, love the instruction on creating texture in the painting. All painting is illusion, some are better than others.

Best book for acrylic beginners. From the Master, which unfortunately died this year.

The book was very helpful and easy to follow

I bought this after his Top Tips for Acrylic Painting book and DVD helped me create and sell a painting. Now I've painted a 16 x 20 one of wisteria on a house wall - inspired by, though not the same as the one in this book. I find Terry Harrison a very inspiring and encouraging tutor and actually his brushes are very good quality indeed. If like me you were starting out and had hardly any, you could do worse than buy his set.Anyway, I'm looking forward to tackling another project from this book soon - the cover picture will be next I think.
