Standard Shower Kit With Pan Liner (SSK-501 DELUXE) "Goof Proof Shower" Mark E Industries

As a general contractor how has completed over 100 bathrooms and shower renovations this was actually more difficult to use than using our standard methods for a custom tile shower mortar bed. We did want to try it since it would've provided a correct slope to the drain however it did not work for a square drain and the issues started there. The curb would have been far wider than a standard 3.5 inch 2x curb making acquiring a solid sill difficult for certain types. The sloping is pre built in and doesn't allow to correct for older homes being out of level. Too much playing with this "kit" before finally trashing the plastic pieces and just used the liner.

I ordered the "deluxe" kit thinking it would have all the parts to do 3X4 shower. I was wrong. Reading the instructions "you should not space the sticks more than 2.5' apart" sounds easy until you lay them out and realize that you have to purchase another set of sticks. I hate when I am in a middle of a project and have to so out and get more parts. It is bad marketing on their part. I would rather have all of the needed parts in the kit and pay the extra money than have to pay for gas and find a local shop to find them. I was able to fabricate some out of some shim sticks that I cut down to size. After I got the correct pitch with the mud I carefully pulled them out and filled the holes in with mud. Worked fine, and saved me time.For those who want to use a square drain. After hours of research of why you would need the extra universal drain kit, I realized that you only need it if you are going to install a square drain that has the hair trap in it. If you want a square drain that will work with the standard ring just get a Oatey square drain and it will work.

great product. makes a very difficult process (for a non expert) quite easy to do. the videos are awesome, I referred to them several times during installation.

The whole kit was super easy to use it even came with a DVD instructional video with a step-by-step when I actually got to work and laying down the mortar it was a little hard but at least I had this kit to help me out with the leveling.

Price I thought was to high I used the product to build a shower pan

Practically everything is included to insure that your mortar shower base is sloping properly. I would have liked to have seen 2 additional sloping strips for the pre-slope and final slope.
