You can pass the CNE with this book and the app
I just passed the CNE! I was a long shot, since I have not been a full-time educator, nor have I taken any formal education courses. My masters was not in education. I went through this book chapter by chapter and learned so much! It is valuable as a resource, since all of the evidence-based teaching theories, and strategies and studies are organized by topic if you ever need to look something up. I used the questions on the app that comes with it, and some were frustrating since they were not good test items, and left me more confused! The question-taking on your phone with the app. is great though, since you will get used to how the questions are worded on the exam. Focus on what to actually use or do with learners, i.e. those with suspected disabilities, those in different generations, those with different learning styles (including Kolb's, not just VARK). This book gives you a ton of options for strategies and activities with learners. Really key in on concept-mapping and debate, researchers think these methods are the best for critical thinking.I strongly suggest the two CNE practice tests by the NLN. Comb through every question and rationale and make sure you understand them. They are VERY similar to the test. But don't stress out if you don't do well on them, I didn't, but managed to score pretty well on the actual exam. I also think the Billings course from Nurse Tim helped, and I had wished I had purchased the Billings and Halstad book (Teaching in Nursing) but I was OK without it I think since I heard her stress the important points in the webinar. The other book I looked at was the Core Curriculum by the NLN-that is an overview, but not enough.I think I maybe could have passed the CNE using just this book, if I had more background in nursing education. It's funny, there were questions on the exam related to service learning, and this book has a chapter on it, so I think I got those correct.Good luck on the exam! Put in about 6 weeks for a few sessions a week with this book and take the practice tests and do questions and you will pass!

A must have.....and even has an app!
This book was one of my go-to texts for studying for the CNE Exam (the other being Billings and Halstead). I passed the exam on first attempt. It is concise, easy to read. I appreciated the organization of the chapters, which helped me to focus on what I needed to know for the exam. In addition, there is an app with extra practice questions (for purchase) associated with the text. It was well worth the purchase for me because; the CNE exam is expensive and I only wanted to take it once! So investing in these resources was a must!

Very informative
Very straight to the point and I like the fact that in the rationale, you have an opportunity to learn more about either a theorist or someone you may not have been aware of and read more about them to broaden your knowledge. For some rationales I wish there was a little bit more detail but overall, Awesome

Text not proof-read effectively
The publisher and authors did not do a good job proof-reading this text for errors. There are a lot of errors - e.g., test questions that are incomplete, but are complete in the answer section; multiple response questions that only have one right answer; duplicate questions in the end of chapter section. Some chapters have rationales that do explain, other chapter's rationales are similar to "it's wrong because it's not right" type of responses. There are typos and poorly worded sections. On the positive side, each chapter has 10 practice questions, and there is a 100 question practice test at the end. The end of chapter answers also include the questions which makes reading the rationales easier. You don't have to flip back and forth from the question to the rationales. It also goes into more detail than other texts.

Lot of duplicate questions
I like how portable these flashcards are once I take them out of the book and separate them. However, some of the questions are frustrating to me and my colleagues (e.g., encouraging students to use Twitter for learning and metacognition as part of their class) and there were multiple questions that were duplicated in several chapters.
