Great value and functionality!
This portable fish finder has worked well for me. The several times I've used, it cane on quickly and provided fast depth readings along with fish alarms when appropriate. Using the ft/m button, I quickly changed it to ft from the default m setting. Once I did, ft now comes up every time I turn it on. I'm very satisfied with the product. It is a great value for the cost. My friend who was out with me on the lake was impressed with its performance and intends to get one since it is so easy and convienant to use.

Easy to operate
I just got this today...and I generally frown on people's reviews written within days of purchase since the ruggedness of the product has not yet been tested. Who cares if it works on the day you got it...and fails in a week (but without a review update)The reason I am breaking my rule today is that this product seems to be breaking the "made in China is junk" barrier. Easy to operate, I dunked it in our pool that has depths of 3 - 6 feet: the meter read it within inches of accuracy, indicating "super hard bottom" (no crap, it's concrete).OK, so what about finding fish? Fish sonars detect fish because of their swim bladders, so I rigged-up a small plastic bag with a bubble in it to simulate a fish. Sure enough, this gizmo saw it at the proper depth!!! We played with our fake fish going back and forth and the gadget WORKS!In 2 weeks am taking it to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a 2 week outing to mostly lake trout country. Will definitely update now what looks like the cheapest accurate and very portable depth/fish finder.8/29/2018 Update: Just got back from a 2 week canoe trip in the BWCA and had an absolute blast with this gadget! Once you learn its idiosyncrasies, you'll be amazed what this thing can do for $50. I used it to find drop-offs in lake trout lakes, which it did very well and accurately: we had a 50' paracord to use as anchor rope and when stretched straight down and hit bottom, the fish-finder indicated 49-50'...not bad! It also showed fish in areas we (initially) caught trout and pike on almost every other cast (at @ 40'), although as other reviewers noted, it tends to get overly generous with fish marks under some circumstances. Here's what to look out for:1) I made a mount out of an aluminum rod and a c-clamp to clamp the transducer to the side of the canoe. Make sure the transducer points straight down - if tilted, either you'll keep losing the depth measurement or you'll get false fish signals.2) You'll get best results when either stationary or moving slow (up to slow to mid trolling speed) - any faster and you will lose the depth and the gadget will start screaming that there are hundreds of fish under your canoe.3) As is stated in the manual, muddy bottom may make it lose the depth. We also had it lose depth in waters over 90' , so I am skeptical to the manufacturer's claim of 300' range.4) The display unit is not waterproof (and doesn't claim to be) so keep it in a ziplock bag.5) When/if you lose the depth signal the fastest way to reacquire it is to just turn the unit off and back on.6) the long cable between the display and the transducer is a bit of a pain when using it in a boat - I don't really see its usefulness e.g. trowing it out from shore. You can't really shorten it since the transducer is permanently attached (and I didn't want to ruin anything by attempting a splice). You just have to keep it coiled up with some zip-ties.As far as longevity - it worked fine all two weeks we were out. We'll have to see what happens from now on. For $50, though, it definitely found us fish and was worth taking along.

Works well
I bought this thing a few years ago, but didn't ever use it. This year I finally decided to use it and it didn't work. The company, however, was very professional and his to work with. They sent me a new one and it works great! I use it every time I go. I have measured and marked the length of my boat anchor, and the depth finder on the indicator matches exactly! If you are looking for a less expensive fish finder for kayak or boat this is good choice.

Depth accurate but that’s it
Great for figuring out depth but never once marked a fish or any structure when I know the body of water I was in pretty well. Caught plenty of fish but they never showed on the device. Depth did seem accurate but not worth the money just for that function.

Unable to be muted. Beeps constantly.
There are lots of problems with this, but the depth finder portion does work. The single most irritating thing about this, is that its unable to be muted. The manual states it can be muted, the advertisement on the page states it can be muted, but the mute option does nothing. Anytime you go over a large patch of weeds (even muted) the fish finder beeps constantly. I never got to find out if it worked as a fish finder, because I can't stop the continuous, unmutable beeping.I could overlook the fact that the fish finder interprets every weed as a fish, and just use it as a depth finder, but I can't even do that because it is constantly, CONSTANTLY beeping. Even when stationary. The manual and seller's suggestion/advertisement that you can tow the buoy behind you is ridiculous - the slightest bit of movement and the depth is gone and fish display lights up all the way with fish. This is from the cavitation/air bubbles of the boat and paddling. As soon as you stop moving it goes back to normal and works fine.If you intend to use this on a kayak, you'll probably need to mount it on the kayak. I made a hard-mount that I could drop over the side of the kayak, but the fish finder stopped working completely on the third trip, so never got to test this.Recommend you avoid.

Wow this works great and what a value
It could not be easier to use turn it on and toss the transducer with its float over the side of the canoe or row boat. We have a much larger unit on our fishing boat that is great but this is simple and for the money a great thing to have for the small boats and even as a backup on the big boat. Surprisingly well made and solid.

Works great, monitor not waterproof only downside.
Can't comment yet on longevity and gave it 4 rather than 5 because the monitor is not water resistant. That's a hassle as our crab boat gets pretty wet! But the device works great and seems pretty accurate. The first day we were getting 10' readings and I was sure it wasn't working so dropped the depth line and found out we were in 10' of water! We normally go 30-100 feet and it appeared not only to read depth accurately but to show fish. We were crabbing so fish was just an interesting factoid and not significant, but we found the depths accurate enough. Easy to use, inexpensive enough to replace if we need to.

Works Like A Charm
Nice handy portable unit. It works great! I never had any issues with it. I mostly use it without the backlight to conserve on the battery usage but always carry spares just in case. I never logged the actual number of hours I get but it stays powered up for at least 4-5 outings with 3-4+ hours per outing.

I would not recommend it to anyone
This is living proof you get what you pay for it is a very basic unit. This device freezes after being on for a few minutes powering it off does not restore it.If you leave it frozen it will come back to life for a few minutes then freeze, again very frustrating. When it is working it will mark fish and depth but not much else.I would not recommend it to anyone.I thought of throwing it in the lake but thought that would contribute to pollutionso I will try and return it to Amazon!
